Merc knew that they had a car to go to war with before they lured Lewis to join the team. Are you suggesting that they've suddenly lost their "know-how" to produce a car to compete in 2017? You can bet your boots that they've got a stonking car for next year too!
Just let Lewis get on with it and give him a driver good enough to get 2nd place so that Merc can win the WDC as quickly as possible.
