Nice Z, good price?

Hi all, looking for a zed, was waiting for winter but this looks a decent price.

Good year, love the blue (although would prefer cream leather interior). Low mileage and seems like a lot of goodies.

The only thing I don't like, are the wheels (didn't really want auto either) If I was to change the wheels, is this still a decent price?

Realistically am I going to see much of a price drop in winter or is that a bit of a myth?.

I don't know much about E89 prices but AutoTrader seems to think it is good and it's a lovely colour, although as you say the paler interior would be even better!

Those look like standard E89 17" wheels so you wouldn't get much for them. I have a set on my 3 Series and I've tried selling them twice with no real interest. But I got a set of staggered 18" Style 295s in 2018 for about £300 I think so you might find something similar.

The biggest drawback I can see is it doesn't look like it has heated seats. So if you fancy extending the roof down season that might be an issue.

Best advice I could offer to you as a newbie is take your time , do your homework & study the market .
The car you linked may well be decent in itself but it's riddled with negatives that majority of buyers would want to avoid .

The second one is much nicer car, better wheels, better engine, better interior, better spec IMHO - as others have said, take your time and buy what you want.

I waited as I wanted heated seats / iDrive etc, and sometimes paying bit more gets you what you want which is better in the long run.

The second one is definitely a much better idea, so long as you don't mind an Auto, for the reasons outlined above.

Yes it's quite a bit more expensive but 30is seem to be quite rare and when you eventually come to sell it'll still be worth a fair bit more.

But given what the boss said you might as well wait a bit! :lol:

First Z i looked at was blue. First thing i noticed chipped bonnet, it has a grey under coat, put me off the colour.
Why i went the Orion silver, doesn't show any chips and always looks clean my way when dirty.

Nothing wrong with the 23i, they were very popular, but with that means there are loads of them out there. The 30i does seem to be rarer and you get an additional .5 ltr. Both non-turbo N52 engines, and neither can be played with to any significant degree.
I wouldn't be swayed by fancy large wheels due to all the problems owners have with cracking on the larger ones. The M-Sport look is very nice, nice bumpers, a thicker steering wheel, although I'm not convinced that all M-Sports come standard with M-Sport suspension (I could be wrong there, but I'm sure that's what I read, so I'm sure someone will correct me).
As for the spec list on Auto-Trader I'd certainly check on viewing (using a VIN decoder website) that all that is "said" to be there actually is. They also seem to be making their own terminology up now as I've never heard of some of the things they say (eg, CBC "Corner Braking Control" that's not a BMW thing! Do they mean DSC? :? )
For options, personally I'd make a list of the things you'd like to have, I'm sure some will say to just enjoy the car as it is, but it's "your" car so it's what's important to you. With actually making a list you can then make sure any potential car has it. This is because there were quite a lot of options available, in fact nearly everything was an option, so almost every car is different, so you could forget about something.

The 23i (6 cylinder) is a great car, go out and drive a couple and decide for yourself, 30i, 23i and a 20i (4 cylinder).

Ive had a 23i E89 , it was a manual & it was a Se but with sport seats , cracking car & the straight 6 should never give issues but lacklustre in terms of poke it needed prodding hard to get any momentum . Just for ref i paid £7700 for it on 122k but that was 7 yrs ago .
For the £10k the blue 23i is way overpriced imo & my advice was simply to watch the market & do some study before making a potentially costly " mistake " .
The marketplace right now is flooded with E89s around £9k-£10k that offer better value for money .

Yeah you are right

Something will have to give asy budget and availability is not always going to line up. I have time to find it though.

When the time comes I will have to decide what has to bend, colours, goodies, or mileage. Ideally one from the forum would be my choice as the history will be well known and very likely well looked after.

Let's see if anyone wants to sell in the new year.

My first choice is
30i in blue with cream interior
I drive
Heated seats
Wind deflector
M sport or similar nice trim
Decent wheels but not anything specific
Service history
Ideally electric folding mirrors

I think this must be taken from the dealer supplied catalogue/magazine that you can get for each vehicle when ordering.
It mentions corner braking control in that.
