Nice surprise - iPhone Navigation

I don't know if this is common knowledge, but I was very pleased yesterday to find out by chance that if you have your iPhone paired with the car via bluetooth, the Google Maps navigation instructions come through the car speakers while fading out the music, just like the OEM sat nav does. I thought I would need to plug the phone in via AUX, but it does it via bluetooth :) So it's possible to have far superior navigation software without any cable mess in the car and it working seamlessly with the stereo.

Just thought I'd share in case anybody else has bluetooth and an iPhone and didn't realise it - no mention of it in the manual! :thumbsup:

Not exclusive to iPhone. I think every phone I have had right back to my old Nokia N95 / Symbian version of TomTom has been able to do that :-)
 
Edd I hadn't realised until I stumbled across it today :thumbsup: Now why doesn't Spotify stream the music across Bluetooth like that? 8)

It should be able to. You may need to select the output to Bluetooth streaming. Not got an iPhone, so not sure how it works on IOS.
 
Mine does 'work' but it comes in as a phone call with fairly poor audio quality every time a direction is uttered...

That's exactly what the OEM sat nav does, it certainly did in my old 5 series which had it anyway. I assume they consider the telephone system good enough for voice only sound.
 
Same as mine... And not with tomtom on the iphone only googlemaps.

Also as it thinks its a phone it often cuts out the first few commands as the bt audio kicks in.
