Next service recommendation?

MOTing the girl next week and just looking through the service booklet planning next service. Know Blacklines took good care of her and had additional oil services but would appreciate advice on which and when is due next. Only using car at weekends so miles arent racking up - currently on about 50k miles.

History is:
12.07.07 - Running in check - 860 miles
17.12.07 - Oil service - 8763 miles
23.09.08 - Insp I and Brake fluid - 18,465 miles
No date - Oil service - 25,123 miles
13.10.09 - Oil service - 30,272 miles
14.06.10 - Insp II - 37,986 miles
20.04.11 - Oil and Brake fluid - 47,945 miles

If its Insp I next should I get it done regardless of the milage I'm doing or wait for a certain mileage mark?

inkey, looks like your due an oil service.

like you my mileage will be low, so my inspec 1/2 won't be so frequent unless I'm advised otherwise.

PVR stretched out his Inspection 1, and he wouldn't do that if it risked future value of the car etc....

Thanks sr. So another oil service next about now then? How long would you stretch out the Insp I?

Looks like an Insp 1 next to me.

but only 13k between inspec 2 and then inspec 1, seem very short on what is condition based servicing.

But unless I'm reading this wrong, the car isn't getting serviced anytime soon, only MOT'd.

good point

Can't really answer then, as it's due a service April 2013 so depends mileage covered till then.

So Insp I due April 2013 mileage dependent and oil service after that? Worth going with the onboard countdown then?

Sorry for all the questions. Just want to make sure she's nurtured properly.

I would service it according to the schedule dictated by the onboard countdown, but with additional oil services halfway between each indicated service. My indy, who is a very experienced ///M mechanic, suggested to me that the BMW service intervals are just too infrequent for a high performance engine such as ours.

Even if I only do 2K a year?

Thats the question. Happy to go oil service next spring to keep things nice and fresh. From memory the computer is telling me I have about 9k miles until next big service. Probably makes sense and will be around April 2013.

If you're driving only 2K per year, you'll likely be performing time-based services not fuel consumption-based, so I would probably just service in order (oil / insp I / oil / insp II / oil / insp I / etc).

This well debated subject again.

Oil & brake fluid every 2 years regardless of annual mileage. Insp 1 & Insp 2 wait for the OBC to tell you when due. This will result in several interim oil services (do not reset the OBC each time, only when it is the official oil service)

2k per annum from new following oil/Insp 1/oil/Insp 2......would result in an Insp 2 being carried out at 16,000 miles!

Inspection are based on amount of use/wear.....not time. i.e your 12,000 miles pa driver will be having his Insp 2 at approx 48,000 miles....slighty more wear and tear on components over the 16,000 on the clock driver over the same timescales.

Fair point. My actual point was that interim oil services between those dictated by the OBC are a good idea for higher mileage drivers, especially for those of us who visit frequently the redline. 15K miles between services is asking for trouble under such conditions.

This is how I understand it to be. I have read many times about shims not needing to be adjusted until 100k so every 16k really would be overkill.
