Yes, the car is still in for it's exhaust (hopefully back Thurs!), but I just arranged the shipping today for the next mod..

Not sure whether to spill the beans or keep it as a surprise yet (although I have let it slip on another forum).. What I will say is that it's nice and light ;)
 
I am with Top pup, reckon its a diffuser.....

If not, must be some nice pink fluffy dice !! :P
 
you've spoken of it before, we all know. Or do we???? Or was that on Zpost?
 
It was on Zpost, and yes, 155 is right. I guess it wasn't much of a secret (just on here).

Ordered the carbon roof panel from the TC Kline Carbon Coupe. It's being collected by DHL tomorrow, and will be with me 3 days from then...

Quite looking forward to seeing it on the car. Not *as* keen on taking my existing roof off... :o

Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained.. :D
 
Probably not as much as to make it that worthwhile, for weight saving alone. On the M6, CSL etc, the roof panel is much bigger hence there's more reason for doing it there.

However, i'm doing it half for the "look" anyway. I'll let you know the weight differences when we get the old roof off and the two side by side. I'll make sure I have some bathroom scales handy ;)
 
sixspeed is it a straightforward process then, to swap it over?

It'll look awesome, having seen pics of the E92 M3 in white with carbon roof :drool:
 
So ... you are taking your roof off. Just admit it ... you just want to have that roadster feeling, if only for a little bit :D
 
Haha.. rumbled :P

Wondermike, apparently (according to the guys from TC Kline), it's just bolted on, with bonding around the edge for waterproofing. We thought this might be the case (well, a bodyshop owning friend of mine) when I first got the car and were looking around it. But it's nice to know that someone else has done the hard work and done it before me to confirm that. :)

Yes i'd spotted that it appears to be bonded on, almost as if BMW had considered fitting a carbon roof themselves. In fact the entire skin of the car except for the A pillars seems to be bolted on, I was very surprised to see the rear quarters are bolted on with the possible exception of a few spot welds along the door seals. Do TC Kline do any other carbon panels?
 
The Carbon Coupe they made is completely carbon fibre, and they will sell all the panels seperately. Obviously there are some design changes when it comes to the wings (the CC arches are wider, and they lost the Z crease in the front wing)...

The boot lid, bonnet and roof will all go straight on to a standard car though. The only downside with the bonnet is that is a copy of a standard Z bonnet, and doesn't have the M darts/creases.

I'm tempted by the boot lid, would probably save quite a bit of weight overall - even more if you went full out and put a perspex rear window in, instead of glass. But maybe not just yet... lol

Unionjack, that's it. This guydid a roof swap on an E46 M3. Was a bit harder as it had spot welds along the edge, but if you break it down, it's not that difficult as even on them it's just a skin (with seperate strengthening crossmembers). A Z4 would be even easier...
 
I should think the boot lid would offer a good saving, it feels pretty hefty when you open it.
Sixspeed will you get some pictures of your roof fitted and a weight comparison?
