... is a recap of some pertinent info regarding the R172:
o The R172 will hit showroom floors June 2011
o The spy shots aren't all that close to how it will look. As we suspected, as the R171 imitated the SLR, the R172 will mimic the SLS
o SLKs will continue to grow in size. Much like the R171s are 2" wider and 2' longer than the R171s, the R172 will be 2" longer and 3" wider
o 6 speed manual transmission is/will be only available in the 280 and smaller engines. Both here and abroad. Only 3% of sales are for stick shifts
o Perhaps not on the initial orders of R172s, but soon, you will be able to order what tires you want on your SLK at delivery
o SLK is not in danger of discontinuation. While sales are down by an alarming 1/2 they feel it will recover by 2013
o There will not be air conditioned seats in any Mercedes-Benz even if other German automakers are offering them. They continue to believe the cool air on people's backs is not good
o The new cars will have more torque at lower RPM
o Curb weight will be the same as the R171, it will sit lower and have more power
o 9 months after the initial R172 is launched the 5L SLK 55 will launch with an astounding 415 HP (R171 55s have 355hp)
o Contrary to rumors, there is nothing in the works for a SLK hybrid
o They are working on a turbo diesel SLK
o March 2012 expect a 1.8L turbo 201 hp
o R172s will have eight airbags...
o Keyless entry will be available
o Designo color exteriors will now be available in your choice of interiors. Previously, you had to order the designo package which was limited to their choice of interior.
o And speaking of color, 70% of SLKs are (you guessed it) silver, black or white
o Current production is 12,000 SLKs a year
o Perhaps the most exciting change is SLKs will come with 3 different roof options:
1. current hardtop roof
2. hardtop roof with a sunroof with Magic Sky Control
3. panorama roof, which is all glass, with Magic Sky Control
o Magic Sky Control = roof glass automatically darkens when the car is turned off
