I know that this is may be considered to be off topic. However, I understand that there have been many debates with regards to the Dinan pricing. In all honestly, I for one at first was partial towards purchasing parts manufactured by them. However, after further investigating of what I prefer to install in my vehicle,
I felt that Dinan would suit me best.
As an engineer in the private sector, the cost of conducting comprehensive research and development is not cheap. Especially when you are in pursuit of results that must be acceptable to the set forth design criteria and to be within the rules, regulations and requirements of the governing agency or entity.
Trying to achieve results that are reasonable and acceptable by any governing agency or entity, both State and Federal is a task within itself. One example, if I may say so is the awarding of an Exemption Order from the California Air Resources Board for an automotive engine after market accessory. There is much labor and effort that is exercised, from the initial testing, analyzing of accumulated data, the redesign, the re-testing, preparing and submitting all the required documentation, etc. etc., it is most definitely, time consuming and costly, which would result in somewhat high pricing of the parts once approved....
As for me, I am personally thankful that for the many years since Dinan Engineering has been in business, that they have sincerely embarked on a mission plan to provide quality after-market performance accessories for BMW’s that are CARB Legal. As I have mentioned in my other posts, the build quality and fitment is impressive.
For those of you, who reside in California, and if you are curious and have the time, browse the California Air Resources Board web site and one can see that there are not too many companies in existence that have Exemption Orders awarded for BMW vehicles. Dinan is one of the companies that has taken the initiative to do so.
I am aware that there are other after market performance parts that are available for BMW’s, and are also less expensive, but at the same time the part is not CARB Exempt. And believe me, if I had lived in another State other than California the sky would be the limit for me and after-market accessories (as long as the company were reputable and respected). But that is not the case, I am a Californian for life....
In the end and for what it’s worth, in my opinion Dinan’s pricing may not be low-priced as others, nor is it outrageously expensive, and as for me that will do….It's all a matter of personal preference....
(Craftsman Tools = expensive = lifetime warranty = quality = consumer satisfaction)…
(Walmart Tools, m.i.c. = inexpensive = limited warranty = breaks after a few uses = in the recycle bin...
