Hi folks, thought I'd drop by and say hi. I organise the Lotus gatherings at Newlands Corner. We have a regular third Sunday of the month meeting for bacon rolls and banter so we'll be there this Sunday too. We usually have 20-30 cars of various models and ages, plus a few former Lotus owners who have defected to the dark side or have other interesting non-Lotus machinery in their collections.
We usually try and form a couple of lines together in the centre of the first parking area. Plenty of space at Newlands Corner for all of us and we're a friendly bunch so come and say hello. I'm sure there's lots to debate about the different merits of Bavarian metal and Norfolk plastic
In case you're not aware, the upcoming introduction of parking charges at Newlands Corner and the proposed development of the site has resulted in a lot of action by the Save Newlands Corner campaign
http://savenewlandscorner.com. The petition
https://www.change.org/p/surrey-cou...nds-corner-family-friendly-and-free-to-access has reached over 10,000 signatures and the issue was forced onto the agenda of a recent meeting of Surrey County Council. There have been multiple articles in the local paper and coverage on local radio.
Because little has been done at the site to publicise the proposed plans, the campaign are there regularly to let visitors know what is happening. They will be there on Sunday - please lend your support, sign the online petition, take a leaflet and display it on your car, write to Surrey County Council and Surrey Wildlife Trust.
A few ££s parking charge are probably not a big deal for most of us. But if the proposed re-development goes ahead, this wonderful view and photo opportunity will be blocked by a café.
