So guys I put a pair of these in my car last year and all was good until this week when dreaded airbag light came on. Apparently it's not compatible but why has it worked for nearly a year.

Going forward I guess I need to either fit a pre facelift occupancy mat or a bypass kit. Anyone recomend a kit ( I guess I need seat occupancy and seat belt emulator)

If it's been fine for a year it may just be a bad connection, can you read the codes in case it's a different air bag sensor causing the issue , then reset an see if it comes back with same code
 
Tried to reset it with inpa old it just flickers.

Original code After I tried to reset was 20 78 3C ( Carly) then hooked up PC I think it was 20 78 28

Am I correct in thinking that this is the passenger seat

When I put my 07 seats in my 05 car all was fine for months on end but occasionally I'd get a code/lght which I just reset.
In the end I realised it only happened when I put a moderate part load on the seat. Laptop bag, couple of full shopping bags or a tyre, that sort of thing. I guessed there was some sort of compatibility issue going on between the pre and post seat occupancy systems that only became an issue in a certain load/weight range.
In the end I just turned the seat occupancy system off in ISTA P and over 2 years later i haven't had an issue since.

Did you have a load on the seat when you got the fault code/light etc?

Bypass wise you can buy them cheaply enough off ebay etc or you can make one for literally pennies and 10 minutes work. just google BMW E46 seat occupancy sensor bypass, its exactly the same thing on an E85
 
When I fitted m seats in mine ,I used one of these,it was from a seller in N Ireland.It has been fitted for over two years with no problems.

Thanks Mack . The wife was in the car at the time and she's quite light so you could be right.

How do you turn th occupancy of in INPA

I think I used ISTA P not INPA but it was nearly three years ago now so I can be sure which one I used. I'm pretty sure INPA is diagnostics only.
 
I also have 07 coupe seats in an 03 Z4 3.0i roaadster, combined with a sensor for the passenger side like the one posted by Maxman. No trouble for more than three years, then airbag light came on. HOWEVER; this was due to a bad connection near the passenger side A pillar. Easily resolved and nothing to do whatsoever with the seats themselves. So, just saying: despite the reasonable assumption, it's not always the newer seats ...
 
Well I went to my guy who goes the serving on my car and he reset it with the pucka hand held analysis tool so all ok again. Wonder if it was low voltage as been that hot that I haven’t been in it plus I’ve been cutting hedges every weekend . Anyway all good but the fault was passenger occupancy mat
