NEWCASTLE: 'Hoon' 26th April HAWICK LOOP

What a terrific day! And quite unexpected - thought we were in for a wet afternoon at least but no, the sun was out and the roof down all day! :o

At the start

Because the weather forecast for Newcastle was sunny we decided to use the more lengthy back route to Chollerford and the traffic gods were with us as we had a near uninterrupted run. :D

This is a terrific route following tight turns at the edges of field boundaries lots of continuous 90 degree corners

A clear run makes such a difference to a days driving but it got even better when the weather (though a little cold) continued to be spectacular and as Steph commented, the stretch from Chollerford to Kielder was the first time we'd had a clear run on this route for months.

What a fabulous road and in the sunshine - unbelievable! We had such a smooth run up to Kielder - fabulous. :D

A big relief (in a literal sense) to arrive at Kielder Water, Tower Knowe and our first coffee stop. What a spectacular café with a full wall of windows looking out on the massive reservoir - good coffee and cakes as well.

Someone (JaxsZ4) suggested a bit of hooliganism and had us climbing and dancing on picnic benches all for the want of a group shot - some were very keen!

Here's the culprit trying to hide in embarrassment  :D

Heading out we'd made the decision to delay lunch and make the most of the wonderful weather by heading to Hawick and from there down the southern part of the loop and turn around and enjoy the road again back before having something to eat.

I can't describe how much fun these roads are when the traffic gods are with you and for nearly all of the day, this miraculously, was what we were presented with - incredible. :driving:

Here we are at the café after these wonderful roads - What a day we'd had. On the last section we did have brief moments where dark clouds dropped some showers and even sleet on us but not for long and amazingly we returned very quickly to the sunshine we'd had most the day

Completing the lap and returning to Hawick worked well for our Scottish Forumites who got to enjoy the best roads on our route but could then head off home - the rest of us headed south after a great days driving - but the fun didn't end quite there - I think I'll leave those shinnanikins as a memory for those involved - don't know what got into Mike, Dave and Craig - hmm wonder what John thought  We will be having a formal enquiry at our next weekly meet

A more relaxed run back (at times) allowed for a few more photos - another memorable forum hoon!

Thanks to everyone for taking part - as usual some had travelled quite a distance - much appreciated all. Can't always guarantee the weather or clear roads everytime but we hope you'll join us again  :D

Paul and Steph.

Hi All,

Looks like a fab day out, gutted I missed it. I'm from the north east but don't pick up my new Z4 until Friday. Beyond excited!!! :-D

Hopefully I'll get along to the next one.

You have to get along to one of our runs - it adds so much to the ownership enjoyment and experience.

Hope everything goes to plan on Friday.

Hope to meet up with you in the future (if you're free some of us get out mid week as well)

:driving:

That's a Golf R and belongs to a friend of Cherrym. He sometimes accompanies Mike in his Zed during our mid week runs and asked if he could join us for this hoon (he secretly wants to get himself a Zed - we shall see). There's also a Mini Cooper ( Mike's brother joined us ) and of course jax's Porsche Boxster S - all, as Jack said, added some desperately needed colour to our grey and black Zeds

:driving:

You see, the Northern lot is a lot more friendly - the southerners made me park outside the photographs

You did not drive over that kerb did you ...

I felt sorry for them :( and called them over for the group shot :D - you'll see they kindly parked away from us on one of the other photos - but I'm just too soft

And yes, the Northern lot are very friendly - come up and you too can join the edges of a photo

:driving:

Ha - it's like a tattoo - we all now have an aerodynamic notch on each side skirt to remind us of our Hawick hoon 8)

Not

NO - we did not drive over that kerb - I think three of said same all in unison ! Although I might have faired better in the Box than in my Zed !

Thanks from me too, another great run with weather and traffic and good to see some faces old and new. Will see most of you this weekend coming too, looking forward to it .

sorry its a bit late but a few photos too add from me, didn't actually take many on this run out.

coffee stop at keilder water

Thanks Craig - hope you enjoyed your first run on those roads - and what an introduction - near clear throughout.

:driving:

Absolutely brilliant especially the road through kielder forest. My brother in law loved it also. Was even talking about selling his wife's car to fund a z4.... Can't see him winning that battle :poke:  (sorry bruv if you read this) but he definitely wants one. Told him to have a look on the forum for advise and knowledge.

That's brilliant - it's great introducing folk who appreciate and can enjoy roads to ones they've never been on - knew you'd love it!
