Hi there,
I am new to this forum and quite new to Z4 E89 ownership. I bought my car on 23rd December 22 and its a 20i M Sport manual 13MY.
Although I've only owned it for a short while I have done quite a few upgrades and cosmetic changes such as:-
Remap and all new coil packs
Green Cotton Performance Air Filter
Carbon Fibre lip spoiler
New Front Grill
Entertainment system with Apply Carplay, Sat Nav and Reversing Camera.
Upgraded camera with inline voltage booster relay to overcome the Canbus.
4D semi gloss carbon fibre interior wrap
Retrofit footwell lights
Retrofit puddle lights with BMW logos
5D gloss side skirt stickers (I might remove these)
Wireless charger
Hard wire tricker charger in boot

Yesterday I bought some 326M 19" alloys off Ebay from another Z4 owner who introduced me to this forum (Craig). I plan to tidy these up for now and fit new centres caps to get this summer out of them. Then in the autumn, I'll have these properly refurbed. I'll keep hold of my 18" for now so I can swap wheels over for the refurb.

Planned upgrades:-
Paint calipers (not sure on red or BMW blue)? What is the correct name for this? Does anyone have the paint code please?

Hello and welcome, nice intro and car looks well. I like the side skirt stickers as they break the white up a bit

For info, for reasons way above my electrical understanding, something to do with intelligent charging iirc, the E89’s should only be charged through the charging points under the bonnet, not directly to the battery in the boot. I’m sure someone will give you a proper explanation but it won’t be me

Re your new wheels, the nicest looking on an E89 by far imo but are very susceptible to cracking if running with runflats. If you can change the tyres before use and reduce your risk of this, they’re bloody expensive to replace singly, don’t ask me how I know!!!

Welcome ..A1 for effort and get up and go

Ditto on boot mounted charger..not a good idea..

Interested to know why you went with a cotton gauze filter in contrast to OE spec filter?

Also ditto on 326M wheels..hopefully yiu won’t join the many with cracked versions. :headbang:

Looking forward to your audio upgrade ? :tumbleweed:

Thanks for the comments.
I'll look into the charging situation as I've done quite a bit of research on this matter so far. I have a smart charger and when I first bought the car, the stop start wasn't working even though the PO used it for work every day and it was a 20 mile each way trip on A roads and motorways. As soon as I had it on the charger for a day, the stop/ start came back to life and it was only a mile from my house.
I'll also look into the tyres on me 326M alloys. My previous tyres on my 18" are running low and a set of those would set me back at least £600, so I figured I'd look out for a set of 19" wheels. As luck has it, I mamaged to pick this set up for similar money and the rear tyres were brand new in December! So I might price up some no run flats and see if I can flog these tyres.
On the air filter, O do hear a slightly louder induction noise when accelerating. Can't say it's made any actual performance that I can notice. Some say it adds about 10-15BHP on a turbo car of this power but who knows?
The audio upgrade is completed, I actually bought the entertainment unit from Aliexpress before I had my car (in between deposit and collection). The rear camera is brilliant! Downside is that Apple Carplay takes a minute or two to fire up but there are plently of other toys on there to keep you happy. You can even add Dashcommand and other similar apps to the Android screen and plug a bluetooth OBDII adaptor in the port and have extra dials on your screen that aren't on you main dash (like turbo boost, water temp, load, timing etc). I'll give this a try when I've bought a suitable OBDII slim adaptor. Can anyone recommend one and a link where to buy?

Hi and welcome with your E89 in the best colour!
You have been a busy bunny already. The forum will find you ways to spend more money on things you didn't even know you needed, or even existed!

Agree with the above two Herberts on the charger and wheels! :D

Thanks for your comments. I plan to try and do subtle mods and hopefully imprive it. Anything I don't, I revert back to standard.
With regards to the charger, can someone please explain the reasons exactly why you shouldn't charge from the battery end? The engine end I am led to believe is isolated from the ECU and main electrics so it can be jump start or boost started and that's it. If I am plugging a smaller amp smart trickle charger to the battery end and it monitors the level of charger, battery state and stops charging when it's fully charged, then what's the problem? I would love to know the technical reason why and I am always keen to learn too!

If you have trouble sleeping enter IBS in the search function and you’ll get numerous threads on the subject HTH :D

I think most people with IBS have trouble sleeping (for long periods anyway)! :P :D

On the filter and noise..I doubt very much it will add anything to BHP ..when mine was on the dyno with its extensive mods we found zero effect by removing the filter which must be the multi de-restriction..

FWIW I’d keep the stock filter and preserve engine life but each to their own..

Audio wise have you changed out the el-cheapo OE speakers?

Welcome to the forum.

I've only had one BMW with Stop/Start, a 2007 1 Series. The AGM battery didn't last 5 years and the starter motor didn't make it to 7 years, which didn't seem like a coincidence to me. So after the starter motor was replaced I just kept turning stop/start off!
