Newbies - Sound problem

Hi everybody
I just joined the forum, it's a pleasure to be a member of the forum and discuss my favorite Z4.
I own the 2010 BMW Z4 3.0L turbo, and another BMW X5, actually this is the one I bought for my wife.
Recently the car often emits repetitive rattling sounds when going the first few miles, then hear nothing. I suspect the problem is from the brake pads or the engine. However, I do not understand this issue well, has anyone encountered this situation?

I have a feeling you are going to need to provide a little more concise information as there are probably dozens of different things that could cause this rattle.
Does it only make the noise when moving? I'm assuming so, otherwise you wouldn't think brakes?
Does it change if you apply the brakes?
Does it go away after a certain distance or is it related to engine temperature?

Could the rattle be a loose heat-shield somewhere? Might be worth checking them anyway.

If it's a Tinkling sounding rattle, then i'm with Mr. Tidy re heat sheild. I had it with a 1 Series. Would only hear it a low speeds when starting off.
