I have just recently joined the forum. I own a 2005 Z4 2.0. (My first BMW) Bought it in Wilmslow in Cheshire and brought it back to Belfast via the Holyhead to Dublin route. Not many of these cars for sale in Northen Ireland and they seem to be a bit cheaper to buy in the UK. It has only 54,000 miles on the clock and when I left it in for a sevice last July was told it needed a new timing chain. This was an expensive repair and BMW did not contribute anything to it. I would be interested to know if any other members have suffered this problem and their views on it. I thought a timing chain should last a vehicles lifetime. Other than that I do love the car especially when I can get the roof down in between the showers.
Looking forward to reading the other members topics on the forum.

Welcome to the forum

Don't forget to post some photos of your zed, as we love photos on this forum

Hi and welcome.

The folk on here can only decide on their advice when they can see a pic of the Zed!

Enjoy :driving:

Who told you it needed a new chain? BMW or an Indy garage? As above what were the symptoms? Oh and pics, we like pics :)

Welcome by the way

I did not get any symptoms in relation to the timing chain problem. I had left my Z4 into a BMW garage for an mot/service check and was told the car needed a new timing chain. Luckily there was no other damage to the Z4's engine. Thank you for replying to my post.

I'd have asked for a second opinion before giving them any money...

Welcome

I think it's a 2.0 thing - there have been other posts on here related to it in the 2.0 engine

From memory indicator that something is amis is staggering / rough idle running -

Perhaps a search will find more

Thank you for the reply about the 2.0 engines. I will try and find some of the other posts on the timing chain issue.
