Hello all :) -Newbie here downsized and buying a "new" car. Narrowed it down to Merc SLK (sorry) and Z4 which were strongly erring towards. Can anyone give us some tips on buying said Z4 above the obvious like doing our checks etc. I mean best models, servicing , insurance etc.
Were are thinking a 2.5 or 3 ltr auto convertible, it will be used a lot in France. Budget £10k but could go to £14k for something that really grabbed us.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum , your budget of £10k / £14k leaves you looking at both the E85 & the E89 (2009 onwards)
Therefore your choice comes down to whether you want a traditionally 2 seater roadster or a more rounded 2 seater cruiser ?
Both have much to offer so once you discount tthe SLK enjoy your Z search

When i was buying i lined up the fuel economy/power/price of a 2.5 compared to a 3.0. What i found was that the 2.5 just diddnt have enough power and the 3.0 had a tiny little bit extra MPG. I ended up getting a coupe which was my priority so the engine choice was irrelevant but still worth a look i think.

3.0

This was from parkers.com. Good for all facts and figures. Hope this helps.

Those specs are for the autos as thats what you said you were looking for. The manual is faster and better economy.

Go for the 3 litre if you buy E85 - it's said to be a good match with the auto.

Can't help with the E89 except you'll have the 'tin' roof which might be useful for security/comfort?
