Hello all - I'm the very, very proud new owner of a 2015 18i E89 in black. Totally fallen for this car - just need this miserable weather to do one so I can truly enjoy the convertible life!

This forum has already proved invaluable - particularly @RobbiZ4 's collection of typical issues - thank you! So far, I think I've been incredibly lucky, car is low mileage (30k), has been kept in a garage for the last 5 years and regularly serviced - none of the problems seem to be affecting me (so far). I will though, be replacing the salmon relays and thinking about pre-emptively replacing the roof mech loom on both sides to avoid the wire flex problems. A stage 1 remap from SuperChips is on the cards and I'll be having a go at fitting a Mr12Volt (using @AnubisZed 's video guides of course!)

Anyway, Hi everybody 👋

Nice  :driving:
I bought mine at 5 years old and 27k on the clock, it's now 15 years old with 132k on the clock
If you need any info regarding the Mr12volt don't hesitate to give me a shout 👍

Thanks Dave - that's reassuring, was starting to wonder about the potential lifespan based on some of the nightmares people have had here! Really appreciate your offer of help with the Mr12Volt - will be in touch if needed :)

Hi and welcome - Nice looking car. Super low miles and good history by the sounds of it.
A 15 plate so you'll also likely have the improved cam chain guides.
I've now had 4 E89's (Three previous/1 current) and never came close to ever considering roof loom replacement. I'd maybe seek more input before undertaking it just to gauge opinion. Only one of my 4 cars had roof issues which were hall sensor related (Fixed in 20 mins by Mike at The Zed Shed).

Thanks and Hi @peeblezZ4

Built July 2015 on a 65 plate - so yes, I'm pretty sure the improved timing chain tensioners are in there. Really tough one re. the looms - visually the bend radius looks OK - it's not super tight, there seems to be slack. Also, very little signs of wear on the mechanism itself - the catches and latches all still have the original paint so my assumption is the roof hasn't cycled too many times. I suppose the only way to be sure would be to strip back the loom sheath and eyeball it.

Yep - Low 30k miles is probably a decent indicator of low roof cycles but worth eyeballing for piece of mind if you have the know how etc.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

A 2015 model with just 30K miles sounds like a good buy.
