Hello !

Thank you for having me!

Recently bought myself a 3.0 SE. 2004 Manual

LSD with ratio 3.74 compared to 3.07 original on final drive. Acceleration is insane. Feels more like 300 BHP than 231 :)
Quad cat back with back box delete, sounds incredible. Love it.

Not without its issues though. To be honest I knew it would cost me money and that's fine.

The headlights are dangerous, they are soooo crap. I have read I need to disassemble the projector and clean the lens?
Had the rocker cover gasket done.

There is a transmission whine when applying heavy torque or accelerating hard, i suspect its the gearbox unfortunately! Not really been able to assess as its not stopped raining! no issues with gear selection though.. I thought it was the Prop or a thrust bearing but I`m fairly sure it doesn`t do this in every gear ( just 2nd, 3rd, 4th) so points towards gearbox, which makes sense as the LSD and lower final drive would put extra strain on the transmission ? It only does it at a certain RPM range then dies off.

When upshifting again under stress, the prop "clunks" back into the doughnut thing? ( LOL ) I read that this could simply need lubricating like a dry joint. When i let the clutch go it clunks. I don`t know much about RWD. It doesn`t feel bad just annoying.

I`m not sure on my rough diagnosis !

Can anyone recommend a garage or specialist in the W Mids or Staffordshire area ? I bought it as a hobby and I want it running 10/10 regardless of cost. What a car !

Thank you anyone that can point me in the right direction, I look forward to some comradery :)

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Your car looks great, and is certainly somwewhat modified - in a good way!

Sorry to hear of those issues but I hope you can get them sorted. Hopefully someone with a bit more technical know-how will be along to give some advice, and someone in your part of the world to recommend a good BMW Indy.

Thank you Mr Tidy!
Ah to be expected for nearly 20 years old i suppose. Despite the niggles it drives really well. Hope to chat soon!

Hello and welcome . This is a link to BMW specialists https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=72&t=796191 and from what I can remember BM Automotive Solutions LTD have been recommended on the forum before which are in Wolverhampton . This forum also has this https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=4 to show recommended dealers / specialists .

I used Phoenix Autos in Longton, they did a few things on my old 2004 E85 including swapping a diff. The lads have a good BMW diag machine and know the cars, they were also very reasonable.
