Hi,

Just got my first Z4 on a cheap, hence the username. Its a late 04 model 3.0. Purchased the Z4 as the used cost against performance/looks makes it an absolute bargain.

I have read hundreds of threads from this forum and many of my questions are answered.

But I have a few if someone would so kind as to reply.

1. I am about to have an inspection service. Am I correct in saying this is based on usage and not distance/time. Once the service is done what is the typical distance before the next oil service on the basis I would do over 15k a year.

2. Is it true that having cubby spaces behind the seats means you have the basic sound system ?

3. My roof leaks a little on the drivers side by the A pillar under very heavy rain, is this normal ?

4. Is their any way to tell if the car has been clocked ?

If I recall correctly the service interval is re-set to 15k miles after any service. However it will reduce at a rate that matches your driving style / situation - I think this is because the actual calculation is based on the amount of fuel consumed ... Could be wrong with that, but no-one's shy on here so I'll be corrected pretty fast.

Cubbys = not sure, I think they are only used with the carver sound system ; the basic has six speakers, next one up has eight (two in the doors). If it is basic there will be no amp next to the battery in the boot.

Leaks - not something I have experienced. Yet...

I believe if the car has been clocked a small dot can be seen next to the mileage.

Welcome! Seems like Bing has answered your questions :thumbsup: for you A pillar leak, check the rubber seals for creases/cracks/misalignment and if all that's correct you may want to search for the window reset posts on the forum - the window may have dropped a fraction

Not only will the service interval reduce based on fuel consumption, it will also increase if driven gently. Not something many of us have seen I suspect.

There are 3 audio systems, the basic 6 speaker with no amp; a "hi-fi" system with 10 speakers and an amp with analog input; and a "top hi-fi" system and an amp with digital input and Carver sub-woofers. Cubbies behind the seat mean a basic system. Facelift cars have the amp moved from the battery compartment to the forward wall of the boot, one point of confusion. One way to distinguish hi-fi from top hi-fi is top hi-fi has pre-configured equalisation options, titled "jazz", "concert", "church", this feature is aka "DSP".

Another point of confusion is the 6 speaker system still has speaker grilles in the door, but no speakers are installed behind them.
 
hello and welcome, seems like your questions have been answered but so far nobody as mentioned pics - where are they????????????
 
Maybe the previous owner installed door speakers? I wonder how they are driven. All other indications are for an OEM base 6 speaker system. This is a basic description of what was available, but their location descriptions are flawed, which make one wonder about the accuracy of anything else.

I think they meant to say "2 woofers in front of front door" and "2 mid-range speakers in the rear bulkhead".
