Heya!

So I did a previous post here about a swap I was considering, and I just went ahead with it. It was a good deal considering he also gave me cash (Probably for future parts lol). So now im a proud owner of a 2005 BMW Z4 2.0L with exactly 140000 miles on it. Was a great ride home...until.....the ABS, Handle brake, speedometer also went all over the place, and tire pressure light came on at the same time on the highway, which made this guy here freak out :driving:

But I drove to the nearest gas station, did an inspection and saw one of the tires needed some air in them, the car had not been used for a while so I actually had a thought it might be that, and it was...they all went away and I continued my ride home. Great car, pleasant drive and it handles great.

However, considering there was partial service history and his last one was in oct 2018 I might reschedule one just for the sake of my own comfort, its a good looking car with some scratches here and there but nothing major. The engine could use a gooood cleaning because is making my head in looking at it.

I also see on the startup of the car that they possibly have not reset the inspection code? It says -35625 and inspection on the right when I start up the car before it goes away. I have no warning lights though.

Oh and I have to change the hydraulic pipe for the roof to work, previous owner said there was a set of that for like 60£ on ebay, is this an easy job?

Anyway, looking forward to take more part in the forum discussions in the time to come.

So you went for it then!

Car looks good too.

If it's showing - 35625 when you start it up the service details haven't been updated for some time! If it had a service in October 2018 it won't be due another on date until October 2020. Can you get any indication of mileage since that service was done? My E86 has done 7,000 since it was last serviced, and is currently showing just over 10K to the next one although it will need doing long before that on date. But it never does any stop/start short trips as I use my daily for those!

So far as your roof is concerned while you are at it I think I'd be taking it to one of the forum members who reconditions and relocates roof motors into the boot - they tend to get drowned where BMW put them. Nearest to you is a guy called Durham Dave I think.

Anyway, enjoy. :driving:

Aye, I did. Its cheaper than my x5 thats for sure xD was doing 400£ in gas a month to get to work in that lol.

Thats a good question but I dont think its much, he did about 2000 miles on it in 12 months, before that it was almost 5.500 ish. Im getting the service papers on email, they didnt log it in the book which I found..weird tbh. But as long as I get that document and garage number I can do some checks.

Yea Ive seen that name pop up here and there, I might consider heading down one day, its a 3 hour drive so..not that bad. :)

thank you very much!

Welcome on board. Nice Zed. :) A little TLC needed then. Looking forward to the pictures of a gleaming engine bay in the weeks to come.

Well if it's only done 2,000 miles in the last year I wouldn't rush to get it serviced again, although a lot of people on here prefer to change the oil and filter every year, but even if you do that you've got 6 months to go!

There is another guy who does roof motors and pretty much anything else you want for a Z4 (including keys) who is in Cheshire, but he no longer comes onto the forum. But there have been issues so before you think about using him read this thread, especially the later pages:-

Having said that he replaced my rear brake pipes and cut and coded a flip-style key for me in October 2016 and I was more than happy with his work, and the price.

But it's your choice at the end of the day.

Ah right, im probably just being overly cautious, I will wait and see what the paper says and see what I do to make sure, I have a hard time taking peoples word on things I cant see with my own eyes when it comes to cars lol.

Thanks for that link, will take a look! Cheers pal!

I’d be doing a service on that asap, just so you know its got decent fluids and filters in there. Especially as it looks like it’s been a bit neglected in the past and the dash displays it as massively overdue and nothing in the service book. Doesn’t exactly inspire much confidence!
