Newbie with an E86

Long time lurker, but just bought my (first...) Z4 so thought I’d get involved!

Back in the late 2000s I was a student in London, and one day I saw the most beautiful car I’d ever laid eyes on. I soon found out that it was a Z4 Coupe and lusted after them ever since. Unfortunately I have had to commute long distances for the past 10 years and have worn out an old VW Golf followed by a 120D coupe. I am now in the position of being able to walk to work so have treated myself to something I won’t have to abuse!

Bought privately from a nice bloke in south Wales. Drove it home to Oxford and grinned all the way back :D Feels spot on mechanically but some aesthetics to work on:

- Badges (front and back) - front ordered
- Gear knob knackered - beige leather one ordered (looking forward to the challenge of the swap by the sounds of things!)
- Various bits of plastic trim inside looking a bit worn
- Windscreen moulding perished
- Wiper blades perished - on order
- Has had a bit of non stock plastic fitted around the bottom of the front bumper - need to take this off (carefully)

Also ordered a cover (Winter is coming and all that)

Looking forward to pestering you all with my questions as I gradually pick over this beauty and perfect it!

(Sorry - parking space outside my flat not the most glamorous location for a photo shoot - better ones to come)

Hi and welcome to the forum OP.

Just be warned, Coupes can be addictive.

Like you I was doing business miles when I bought my first BMWs, but I just fell in love with the shape of the E86 when I collected my 123d in 2008 and finally got my 1st Coupe in 2014 as I was no longer doing work mileage.

I'd be tempted to leave the plastic around the bottom of the front bumper as I suspect it was fitted to prevent damage to the bumper itself from speeds bumps.

If you have some time to spare you might find this thread inspiring! https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=115885

Although your car looks good already, so just enjoy it. :driving:

Welcome to Z ownership, lovely looking car and the colour is one of my favourites. I am sure you will have lots of fun with 8t.
