Newbie with a serious tuning disorder.

I wonder how many people just chuck a big engine in a car, expect it to work , then realise they may as well have just burnt the money - the amount of effort required to do this is staggering. It's fantastic to see everything that has to go in to something like this, even if I only understand about 80% of it

If anyone ever asks me where to take a car to have it modified & race prepped in Scotland - unlikely, but you never know - then I'm pointing them at you

In fact I'd even recommend someone in Essex trailoring their car up to have, say, a supercharger installed

We spent last Saturday working on getting a can signal to the dash module. This signal if for rpm which hopefully will trigger power steering and chassis systems.1A069FA0-1589-4090-8A8B-6896D77DA39D.jpg
This may look very confusing but my software expert assures me it's simple.
The circuit board to the right is what he manufactured to send can signals that he programs by blue tooth. He eventually had the rpm working on the dash, but there's a part missing from the code that triggers chassis systems. What he's proposing is we get another similar car and tap in to it and he will capture signal while it's running. The rest he says is simples.
The final result will be a small box with a few wires to tie into wiring harness.

Just in case anyone can help .
Do you need a e85 with 3.0 engine as per your original car
Or a running 5.0 v10 as per the engine you have.
I'm a little far away to help but there must be someone near by can help .

Hi Mark. Thanks for the offer, greatly appreciated. Luckily I have a friend close by with 3.0SE that's offered to be guinea pig. We just need to identify the 2 can wires in beside ecu and tap in to them, capture codes that BMW cling tightly to. In a way this could be classed as theft, hope big brothers no watching.

Cut the blue one.

No the red one.

Hats off to you that would give me palpitations :D

Stevie where in Scotland is your workshop? I'm going to the borders near Peebles all next week and would love to see this if you did'nt mind / had time, I know you're busy so just a quick drop in would be great if possible.

Many thanks, John.

Stevie I've just been looking at a old redline aug 2011, magazine featuring a v10 e46 with the v8 m3 gearbox, an does mention can bus issues , it was built by a company called drift works in Birmingham, if still having issues might be worth a call,

Hi Mark. I know Phil from driftworks, I'm sure he ran a Pectal system which is different to my route. Hopefully our theft idea will solve it

Would likely be dynotorque that did the actual build, rather than driftworks directly. Dynotorque are next door and build all their drift cars. I have the number for Craig who is the owner of dynotorque, happy to pm it if you need it.

Contact details could possibly be helpful, especially if they've covered same ground.
