Thanks for the add!

My daily commute all over the UK till the rains hit us, is my 2006 2.0 Z4 and love it!

Need help please..... called the RAC out as the alarm would not go off! He removed a sounder from the back under the wheel arch as suspected water ingress (need a new one?) but now got no roof up and down, no windscreen wipers, no remote boot open from inside switch, central locking off (key is ok he tested it) so I need an auto electrician in Nottingham please?

Anyone else have this problem?

Oh! and one headlight is all wet and fogged up, so new light recommendation welcome too!

Thanks a million.

Welcome to the forum, the headlight is probably just the rear cover not fitted correctly. These cars suffer when the battery is going down, have you checked it. May be worth trying a new battery

Thanks to you both for the reply.
He disconnected the 'sounder' and obviously stopped the noise. But then left me with lots not working......! He didn't even go inside the car.
I have a Boxster too (sorry, the Z4 is a better drive!) and the garage I take it to had a look for me. Waste of time really as it's now back on the drive. Will get someone local to have a look. Thanks again

Hi and welcome.

Alarm issues seem to arise quite often as a result of the bonnet switch failing - it might be worth disconnecting that and plugging everything else in and seeing what happens.

Your other issues could well be due to a tired battery so it would be worth getting it tested - an under-performing battery may have put your car into "transit mode".

Good luck getting it sorted.

If the alarm had been going off for a while it could well have dragged down a battery that was already a bit weak.
So maybe the two are linked.

Or is it possible the alarm would go off if the battery voltage dropped? (That's just me stabbing in the dark tbh)

Either way, a battery check would be my first thoughts too.

Hi and welcome - roadster well done

At least you've got another car you can press into service. Its poo when you've got a run of problems and these are all interrelated by the sound of it. Its easy to feel the whole car is against you and because they all interrelate hard to decide where to start.

Start with the search function on the forum for battery issues. It all starts with the battery as above if voltage is low all sorts of weird things happen. Check or get (halfords) to check the condition and read the voltage across the posts. I can't remember what the threshold is (search threads or wait for some who does to post) but I bet is on the way out so change it and see what issues clear - sadly if its in transport mode you're not at the end of sorting it - but again search the threads for the solution. Good hunting

I replaced the 5 amp fuse that was blown (thought I checked them all!) and everything works. I pressed the boot open switch and it blew again! replaced the fuse and left the car on the drive? Can it really be be the internal boot open switch at fault? :x

Before you replace that sounder, do you know where it is wired in to?
Is it an aftermarket item?

Just wondering if it's been spliced into the boot open wiring? And possibly linking your problems?

Is it an aftermarket item? Seems BMW legit!

It all seems to be legit and BMW, RAC lad thought some moisture got into the wires as they were a little exposed near to the unit. Have to see if I can get someone to look after my trip to Scotland this week - now in the Boxster!

Thanks for your help

welcome headlight is back plate not sealing and allowing moisture in re set after drying out and it should be fine other probs i would be looking at battery first as our cars throw up all sorts of gremlins if voltage drops
btw nice roadster :)

I got a z4c on Monday and I had to deal with the alarm issue yesterday.
The previous owner gave me a tip that worked so feel free to try it. Lock the door with your key not the remote and see how it goes.
Worked perfectly for me

So, I have done 1500 miles since I replaced the fuse and don't use the boot release button anymore...... and all has been superb! Oh! apart from changing the bulbs today via the nice man at Halfords! Car is bloody filthy but still gorgeous.
