Newbie with a concerns for Roof Motor

Hi Everyone

Just joined the Forum recently with a view to purchasing an early Zed for summer cruising, and so i'd thought it would make sense to get a taste of the Zed community and the ups & downs of being a Zed owner.

The Zed on my wishlist would be a Pre 2008 with either a 2.0 or 2.5 engine as i dont think the missus can handle anything faster, with average mileage and a good history.

Up until now, all the reviews i read up online have proved positive (except for TopGear, but i dont take them seriously anyway), but a common concern is the Roof Motor. Can anybody offer any advice on this as to how to check if the motor is on its way out, and in the worse case scenario, where would be a good indey for a replacement? (Northwest area)

When the pennies are saved up, I will be posting with a view to any potential sellers.

Meantime, thanks for any tips in advance.

Hi and welcome.

Roof motor is hit and miss, might be OK today, but in a month you might have issues. I wouldn't worry too much though as there is enough knowledge around now to fix for very little money and also to relocate the motor to the boot.

As long as it opens and closes in around 10 seconds and doesn't seem to be struggling then you will have to take a flyer on it. Just make sure you cycle it through 5-6 times to be sure.

Northwest is quite a good place to be, there's a guy in Durham who will do the relocation to the boot for £80, so as long as it works when you buy it get it booked in with him and then never worry about it again

Durham is Northeast? I only point it out because I'd be interested in relocating to the boot if there was someone in the Northwest that would do it for £80?

Thank you all for the advice.

From the Forum threads, it seems Darren Wood (Stockport) and Hind Heath (Sandbach) are reputable Indeys in my area, so once the car is bought, I may well pay them a visit for a general check up with a view on relocating the Roof Motor.

Cheers.

I remember your thread now - resurrecting your rusty motor and dropping it into the boot
I will seriously consider your offer if its for real? Part of me thinks if it ain't broken don't fix it, and my drain holes are clear and checked regularly. But its still tempting to relocate :scratchhead:

I would give you £80 not to ask me to do it.
If you do it for £80 Mike good on ya
