Hi All

Just signed up and exploring the world of the Z4 for first time. I have been on the lookout for an E46 330ci when I saw the car below which caught my eye:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202007131167515?fromSavedAds=true&advertising-location=at_cars

I appreciate its highly priced and there is some negotiating to be done on this but I have always been one of those who is prepared to pay a bit more for a low mileage well looked after example as I tend to keep my cars for a while.

Does anyone know anything about the car above - looks to be nice spec with low owners \ mileage and its a colour combo I personally like.

Any input gratefully received!

Thanks :)

Don't know anything about that particular car but as you say its got a lot going for it, low mileage future classic right there, if it floats your boat then go for it

Thanks - I am tempted!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

That car looks good and the mileage is extremely low, but as you say it is highly priced - I wouldn't want to pay that much for a 3.0Si. But I suppose it depends how much very low mileage means to you! If you plan to put some miles on it you might lose less buying one that already has a bit higher mileage.

And sadly it doesn't have the Bi-Xenon headlights, rear parking sensor or cruise control options, if any of those matter to you! Mind you cruise is a fairly simple retro-fit.

Anyway hopefully you'll let us know if you go for it.

Ah thanks - I was wondering if it had the xenons, I saw cruise can be retro-fitted on here but hadn’t thought about the parking sensors which would be nice but I’m used to not having them on current car so not a deal breaker.

In case you look at any others the cars with Xenons only have one thumbwheel to the right of light switch. They don't need the 2nd one for headlight levelling because Xenons self level.

I've not had a 330Ci but I did run an E46 325ti as a daily for a few years alongside my Z4 Coupes and the Z4Cs always felt more special to me. Possibly it's the lower seating position just in front of the rear wheels and the long bonnet!

It also seems to be missing electric memory seats? Good colour though! I think it is quite overpriced though in my eyes £3 to £4 K high. If you intend to drive it regularly and hence put miles on it, I personally would pass. Low milage is great but it also implies it has sat for long periods and bushes will have suffered, plus of course, has it only had 1 service in its life? If they stuck to the 20,000m service then it will have ( not including first service of course ) :?

Thanks all - I think it does have electric memory seats looking at the pictures. Regards the service history I have asked the question and it’s been serviced by BMW four times - not ideal but probably just about enough, though reading really it should be every two years no matter mileage.

Thanks that’s really useful feedback :)

Had another look and yes it has electric memory seats. I stand corrected on that point. Still think it is way too much money. As an example 2 years ago I paid £7900 for a 3.0si with Xenons, memory heated seats, dimming mirrors, parking sensors etc. 80K miles. Cruise was an easy retrofit.
I just think you can do better.

I think all 3.0Si models in the UK had electric seats with driver's memory, the same as E46 Coupes.

When I bought my 1st Ruby Black Coupe in 2014 on 54K miles I got some change from £10K. It had the top of the range 10 speaker stereo, heated seats and Bi-Xenons.

After I foolishly agreed to sell it I replaced it in 2016 with a Montego Blue one with Pearl Grey leather on 77K for £8,600, although it only had cup-holders, after-market parking sensors and Cruise.

Anyway my current M Coupe was advertised for £14K on Ebay with 76K miles just before last Christmas, because it had to be gone before Christmas!

But prices seem to be much higher since lockdown started to be eased.

So timing seems to be a major factor on pricing!

OK thanks - appreciate the feedback

Welcome to the forum. Looks like a lovely example of the breed and worth paying a small premium for, if it's going to be a keeper. No harm it taking it out for a test drive, honest. :driving: :D

If it has only had 4 services then it hasn't been serviced correctly according to the schedule. Should be roughly 16k miles or 2 years, which ever comes first. A 2006 car should have been serviced 7 times including this year.

If you are going to put miles on it there seems little point paying a large premium solely for a low mileage car. I didn't pay a great deal more than that for mine, from a bmw main dealer, in 2011.

I also had an e46 330ci previously and indeed an e46 m3 after that, the z4 certainly feels more of a special car.

The e46 330ci was a great car to be fair, they're certainly getting on a bit now though. However they're kind of a run of the mill car if you know what I mean. The z4, being a 2 seater, sat over the rear wheels, with a long bonnet out front and you're basically sat on the floor just makes for a more special experience.
