Hey all.
I'm looking to find 'the ultimate buying guide' for these beautiful machines.
I've been thinking about a weekend treat for quite sometime now, along the lines of z4, 350z, mx5, s2000. I've cut the 350 out due to being more of a muscle car, mx5 due to being too common and not special enough imo and the s2000 due to cost and possibly too specialist for maintenance and spare parts.
The z4 appeals as it's a great looker and has great reviews from the journalists etc and possibly easier maintenance as alot of parts shared with 3 series etc.
I'm thinking along the line of a 6 cylinder with a minimum of 200bhp/t, most seem to rave about the 3.0 litre engines, to me I believe at present this would just be a bonus.
Looking forward to learning more on the choice of the 6 cylinders available and also of any south wales based indies that you could recommend.
I've a budget of 2 to 5 grand, 2k would be a bit of an ongoing project, 5k it would have to be pretty much immaculate. So it's a roadster I'd be looking at for this kind if money I believe.
Cheers all, I'm off for a nose around.

Welcome to the forum - you've probably come to the right place.

Here's a link to a buyer's check list someone put together:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21281

To get even close to 200 bhp/tonne you're going to need a facelift 3.0Si, which doesn't quite manage that (265 bhp, but it weighs 1,385kg) and is likely to be towards the top of your budget.

But I certainly don't find mine feels sluggish! Although that may depend on what you've had before.

Welcome aboard :driving:

Plenty of choice at the moment between Facebook, Ebay, Autotrader and the classifieds here:

Have fun :)

Thanks all, very detailed buying guide.
By the sounds of it it'll be pishes tonight a facelift 3.0si in as good a nick as I'd wish, but I could be spawny.
I found this an interesting read (hope I'm allowed to post this!?)
