Newbie seeking dream Z4!

Hey guys

Just been recommended this forum by a friend as im looking for a z4- a car which have wanted since i was a kid (now 30yrs old). Iv never owned my own car but been named on family members, so have 0 clue on whether a car has issues which is why i would pay for the rac check

But i cant decide between a 2.0 or higher and manual v auto. Im not too fussed about speed as would only use the car occasionally as i work in london mon-fri, maybe a london-birmingham round trip monthly. Also i imagine most people will say a manual 3.0, but im more bothered about the look and reliability, plus for my budget (5-8k) there doesnt appear to be many 3.0 with low mileage. Also having driven a auto Yaris, when u floor it the car jerks catching up..would this happen with a z4 auto?

These are a few i have seen online, keen on leather trim but seems quite rare. Is it easy to change the trim or have leather covere fitted?

Just wanted some opinions whether these are good buys? All have FSH (so they say). The second one sticks out the best

Don't be put off by mileage, as long as it's been well looked after
The 2.0 isn't as reliable (sorry Road warrior)
And you'll want a straight six to fill that long bonnet, it's a classic bmw engine and they sound great
Plenty to choose from at 5-8 k on here, just be patient :D

Thanks how about this 2.2l which is a 6 cylinder- any better?

This one I've linked to has higher miles but has the 'sport' extras: M-sport heated seats, a must for a roadster and M-sport 18" alloys that look so much better than 17" 'daisies' and has the M-sport chunky steering wheel. The owner hasn't got a clue what hes selling - its not a V6 its an inline straight six, and those '///M' badges would have to go

Make sure you get the straight 6. I just brought a 2003 3L with 76k on the clock for £4100. It's my best ever purchase you will love it!!!!!

take your time.
the car marlon has linked is a far better option.
there are plenty out there for your budget.

Can i check the 2.2l i linked says it 6 cylinder in the autotrader spec..is that not the case? So i should be looking for 2.5l and above?

Also any major difference between manual and auto? Does it struggle to catch up if u put your foot down?

Reading feedback all the 2.0l i was going to see this weekend are out the window

Nice, I was searching for cars under 6k given your initial selections. Think you will be lucky to get him down close to 8k tbh

The 2.0L is the only 4 cylinder model

The 2.2L, 2.5L and 3.0L are all variants of the straight 6 engine :) you won't regret going for the straight 6 as it sounds much much better and the extra BHP is worth it as you will enjoy the drive more :)

Personally I've never driven the automatic as I love manual gear change (real men drive manuals)

you might haggle them down to 8 if you're lucky? worth checking out, the market's been slow for a while
it's the right spec. msport, xenon, heated seats, no nav

Hutch... I’m just gonna inform my wife she didn’t marry a real man ( suspect she already knows) O.P. I had a 3.0 e85 auto , after your description of the last auto you drove, I think you will be pleasantly surprised..... and then you hit the sport button and think ( while grinning stupidly) WHY didn’t I do this earlier 🏎💤💤💤💤💤💤

Thanks not keen on the blue colour, that advert its too many miles on the clock for me

I was going to welcome you to the forum, but I might have changed my mind.

There is nothing wrong with Montego Blue - at least it's a colour, unlike all the silver/grey/black alternatives. :?

Then you say 69K is too many miles! Mine has done 89K, which isn't exactly excessive for a 12 year old car IMHO!

Good luck finding some rocking horse poo!
