Hi

Expecting to pick up my Z4 next week via a private sale. She is an 04 plate 3.0 SE manual in Sapphire Black with tan trim, hi fi upgrade and sat nav. My current car is a 99 plate 2.8 Z3.

So many questions but lots of reading to catch up on I guess before I pester you with stuff you've been asked a thousand times before..

Have been trying to sort out insurance and initially it was quite scary but have managed to get quotes that are about level with what I pay on the Z3. I will give Mr Knott a call to see if he can beat my best online quote from the Post Office.

As promised a few pictures of my Z4 alongside my Z3 which passed into my brother in law's ownership today. I will miss her but am now really looking forward to getting to grips with Z4 ownership. She will need to have a little fettling to bring her up to scratch as she has been a little neglected as the Z3 has had my undivided attention last week to make sure she was absolutely spot on for her new owner!

That phone cradle has got to go. Designed for a Nokia brick and really gets in the way.

Welcome, Z3 looks sweet too. As does the Z4, but you're a brave person buying one with that colour of interior in the UK! Cracking registration plate too - there's an Elise around my way with a "MOO" plate too, parents are dairy farmers :D

The Z3 had a fairly light interior and I didn't struggle too much with it. Autoglym leather cleaner is on standby!

The first commute to work was great. A very different drive. Can't wait till home time!!!! I have got to pick up my brother in Law who purchased the Z3 so he can pick up his daily driver Focus from our house which he left last night in order to get the Z3 back to his place. He is already telling me to look after his next car!!!

Interestingly nobody at work noticed I have changed car. I guess being another Black BMW Roadster with the same number plate it was inevitable.

As regards number plate No farming connections just a shortening of an old nickname from way back when concocted by a Geordie co-worker. Nuff said!!!

In response to your question. I find the Z4 a very different animal to the Z3. The ride is much more comfortable as the Z3 was fitted with Strut brace Butt Strut and Body Brace to keep it all together. That combined with 18" wheels made it a very firm ride (but it handled exceptionally well). Not really pushed the Z4 but initial thoughts are that it is will be much more competent without the need for loads of additional iron work to keep it on the road. I actaully like the lighter steering feel on the Z4 and the throttle response is much better. (I think the throttle cable needed adjusting/replacing on Z3)

The Z4 is fitted with 17" wheels and is shod with Bridgestone RFTs. Too early at this stage to make objective comment about them but I am aware of what the gerneral consensus is. That said they certainly do not feel obviously wrong and the tramlining seems less pronounced than in Z3 although it is perhaps a little "floaty" but I am not really sure yet.

I think the cabin is a particularly nice place to be sat in, which I know is one area that some Z3 owners could not get their heads around.

Athough initially apprehensive about making the change so far no regrets.

Nice car Moo, great colour combo, same as mine, saphire black with beige interior. I didn't want a black car originally but i DID want a cream/beige interior. As soon as I saw the two together I had to have a black Z4 with a beige interior. The black seats are just too German, and the red is too pimpy. If the red had been a darker red, I may have gone for that. have a ball with your new ride. :driving:

Funny I was quite determined to move away from black given that the Z3 was black also. I fancied Maldives Blue or Claret and I would have been very content to have a black interior. However, this car turned up on my doorstep (relatively speaking) it ticked all the boxes and here we are! Looking at it from office window right now and it does look great! Must do some work!
