Newbie question

Hi all,

I have never owned a BMW before and I have my eyes on a lovely Black Z4 Coupe 2007.
I am just worried it wont fit inside my garage, I see the official width is 1781mm at the front and 1904mm at the back.

My garage entrance is 2110mm wide so I think I can get it in but would I be able to get the door open inside? The garage is 2500 wide inside.

I hope someone can help, What I need to know is how wide is the car from the tip of the door to the tip of the door on the other side is. Also how deep is the door from its outer edge to the edge inside the car.

Can anyone help ?

Hello and welcome razzy, I too have my eyes on a lovely black z4 coupe 2007! All the best with your purchase, I cant help you with your question yet, but im sure someone here will

Hi and welcome, i have coupe and keep it in my garage which is 2650 wide, keep it over to one side and it leaves plenty of room to open the door enough to get out, i just keep a piece of foam for the door to open on.

Hi and welcome razzy, is your garage door a standard size? if so you will have no problem getting the Z through.

I have a double garage but in tandem, I have just been in and measured it, it is 8ft 2" wide, 98" or 2352mm I think!!

The door doesn't open as wide as I like but I have some 2" foam on the garage wall to stop the door catching, it's easier to get in/out if the window is lowered .

Thanks for the replies :)

The official dimensions seem to indicate the car (ignoring wing mirrors) is fatter at the back. Is this correct?

Some schematics are unclear about this...

Looks on this that the extra width is because of the mirrors.

Anyone noticed if the backs are wider than the front ?

This is the mirrors - 6cm sounds about right each side. There's no way the car is 6cm wider each side at the rear IMO

With mirrors extended total width is 1904, widest part of body is 1781, total length is 4091.

Phew!

Thanks a lot for putting my mind to rest, It seems it will fit!

Am off to scope a car tomorrow, Pics to follow

Thanks all :)

Hi and welcome. Also depends how big you are, access in my garage is tight, but putting the windows down will allow easier access.

When it's new you won't want to get out... getting in and out of the car in the garage won't be a problem for quite some time...

Seriously though...open the windows for a bit of climb-out room, or as suggested drop the top. Also you can get an Indy to reprogram for remote top up...it already does remote top down.

Pinning all my hopes on John54 as I've bought a black z4 coupe today. I'll have to breathe in a bit as my garage is 2.5m wide (15cm skinnier than John54's)

fingers crossed :!:
