Evening all
My scruffy but highly entertaining 2005 2.5 decided this evening that a powered roof was a luxury and stopped functioning. Latches unlock but it goes nowhere.
As a guest on this forum I saw references to mythical characters who can sort this - anyone know who? I’m in Norfolk but any excuse for a drive...

Perfect timing - my 2005 3.0 convertible motor (only 2 years old) just failed. While I don't mind driving with the top down, here in Florida it does get a bit hot and will rain periodically (like every summer afternoon). My replacement quotes are around $1700 USD, which is way too high for a car 14 years old. Any thoughts?

Hi, we have alan (number5) from Bristol way, Durham Dave (from, it’s obvious)
Bowser134 from Sussex ish and probably another one or two I’ve forgotten about.
If you get your post count over 3 you can pm them directly or look up “roof motor relocation” on the search function
Rob

Anyone out there know of a roof motor repair or replacement option anywhere Near East Anglia?
Thanks to Smartbear for the reply yesterday but before I investigate driving to Durham it would be helpful to check more locally!
Thanks in anticipation

Hi and welcome to the forum, nice car
There are guys on here that can fix and re locate the roof Motor ( which is nominally the reason it stops working, if you post what exactly is happening ( does the front motor unlatch then no Motor sounds from behind) for instance? And what area, someone will point you towards the nearest guy that can help, I used bowser myself, top guy , it depends on who’s close to you , think they are all responsible rates , hopefully you get it sorted

Sadly in terms of forum members who are roof motor gurus I think your options are Durham, Hampshire or Bristol.

Welcome to the forum, put your location up and you will be directed to the nearest roof specialist

In that case you just need to send a PM to Bowser134.

Unless you feel brave enough to get out the spanners and try it yourself! Here's a link that may inspire you:- https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8363705&postcount=114

In short no.

A member came down to east Anglia a couple of years ago and did a full day of motor moving - and you might find a thread of Norwich based members talking about moving motors but I'm not sure how far they got. Best bet is drive to one of the members and make a good day out from it!

For information roof was fixed economically by Bowser134 who is, as described above, a top bloke who overcame horrible weather yesterday to move and repair the motor. Neat job too.
: :D now just need sun to come out again
