Newbie on a 2 week hunt for my first Z4!

Hi all,

Just wanted to introduce myself and get involved. Have been tempted by the z4 world for a while now but having my car written off in the last week has forced my hand! Therefore, I've got 2 weeks to find my zed :)

I'm in a very similar situation as new member Caidran with a mid length commute and intending on daily use and will no doubt monitor that thread with interest.

Budget is up to c.£8k and I was pleased to see some positive comments for the 2.0 as I was expecting the votes to all be in favour of the straight 6's! But coming from 1.3 hatchback I think anything will be a step up!

Looking forward to the search!

Hi and welcome.

I think that the clear overall consensus from the Forum is to go for a 6 pot if you can.

Good luck with your search (and take your camera when you collect the new car - saves so much time to get the pics up on here!) :D

3.0 6 pot  not much difference in running cost as long as the insurance doesn't effect you :D

Some resounding votes for the 6 pot then! Hoping to drive a couple of variants but its easier said than done with most now only available privately/through small dealers.

I'm in Cambridge I'm afraid but that's a really kind offer and one I'll definitely take you up on if my search takes me up north in the next fortnight.

Seems to be some great people on this forum.

I would go for a six pot, but nothing wrong with the 4 as I currently own one and the engine is 100% solid in the last 2 years. Its plenty fast for me considering I came from a honda civic 1.4, I would focus on the car histroy to make sure it hasnt been upside down in the past. Good luck

Hi and welcome aboard
Take a look at AlanJ's Pre purchase check thread it may be of help - http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21281#p300458

Thanks guys - I'll keep you all posted with my search. Currently looking at 2008 2.0's but feel I may be tempted by others once I've driven them.

Either way I'll go prepared with AlanJs guide

Good luck with it.

31 or 32 mpg seems standard for the six cylinder models. 37 for the four.

Personally I like the two but each to their own.

I commute to Cambridge, and I've recently bought a 6-pot Zed for about the same amount as you're hoping to pay. If you'd like to try it, send me a PM.
