Hi Guys,

Been directed here after posting on Piston Heads.

The story goes my OH has wanted a Z4 ever since they came out. We are in a position now where we can look seriously at getting one.
Being only 21, insurance may be an issue, and our budget will probably only extend to an early model with average miles on the clock.

The Oh's drive to work is only a few miles every day but the car will be well used at the weekend

What would you knowledgable people say our best options are, and what should we be looking out for?

Welcome Keebz91, sounds like you've come to the right place.

There is a For Sale section on the forum, here's one listed that might fit your brief http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=42810

Welcome to the Forum. There is a Z$ pre purchase checklist in my 'signature' just click on the link. Good luck with the search.

If insurance is a worry, an early mid to high mileage 2.0i sounds the right car. Or there's the 2.2i which is more powerful but higher insurance group.

Plenty good ones about. Welcome to the forum

Check your insurance first before you drive any. If you cant afford the insurance on a 6 pot, dont drive one.

Good luck.

Have a look at this thread. Maybe worth speaking to whoever is a similar age and see how they got on buying.

Im 26, but think there is a massive difference in Insurance between 21 & 25.

Pays to shop around as a 22 year old in Ireland I was quoted anywhere between €2000 and €8000 , eventually managed to get it down to €1100 though :D

Thanks for all the replies people. I paid circa £3500 for insuring my 2 cars for 12 months when I was 19/20 but I definitely can't afford that now as well as paying a mortgage.

It's nice to hear people suggesting the smaller engined cars, I was worried they would carry a certain stigma, especially from owners of their more powerful relatives, but it's reasuring to hear good things.

I got a quote on a 3.0 yesterday: £2300. Unfortunately I can't afford that but I will happily settle for a smaller engined alternative.
