Newbie - Looking for a Z4

Hi all,

As above new to here, and looking for a Z4 3.0. I've been looking and seen various cars availble. I'm just wondering what sort of price I should be looking at for the below spec

- 3.0 se
- 2003
- between 45-55k
- xenons
- upgraded hi-fi
- FSH (does it matter if its main dealer or not)

The prices seem to vary between 8.5k to 10k. I know these cars are great cars, and thats why i'm buying one, just not sure if this is steep or not.

Advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you please.

Hi nick,

Very nice car however over budget for me I'm afraid. I think that interior is gorgeous! M sport seats seem to be rare on these cars.

Im aiming for what I put earlier as these cars seem to be in my price range. Do these cars hold there slur well. I remember looking at these as a 'one day' purchase, but being a similar price?

Best of luck with sale.

Just picked up my Z4 today-private purchase from a seller who emigrated today and needed quick sale. Had my indy check pre-check and connect up to BMW diagnostics. Found fault with ABS sensor and was inforned by BMW £800 part. Subsequent investigations and he got the part and fitted for £330.

Seller wanted £8500 I was looking at £8000. Indy quoted £2100 for repairs. Seller (Stress sale remmber) settled at £6250. My bill today was £1400 incl 2 new tyres wheel nuts cleaned & painted, hood drains cleared, brake pads Inspection 2 service, front bushes. £7650 Good to go.

Sterling Grey with all the requirements but not upgraded stereo (not bothered as its the driving exeperinece that counts and with wind noise I doubt if any are that good)

Seen a lot advertised around £7.5-£8k > I would not normally buy privately but there are good deals to be had at the moment I believe.

I think the key here is to avoid "no nasties" so tee up an Indy (mine charged £60 to look over/diagnostics etc) Get a pre-inspection by Indy. If seller dosn't agree to that walk away. Those that agree will have nothing to hide. I don't be;ieve the ABS sesnor would have been found by AA /RAC etc check as therew as no visible warning-the diagnostics found the fault.

I believe taking this route has save me a lot of money.

Hi, I just bought my BMW Approved Used Z4 3.0 in Sterling Grey, 54plate, 28k, Full BMW History, 6 months tax, with bluetooth, PDC Ellipsoidal alloys and new tyres for just under £10k and it's pretty much immaculate. Having spent a few months looking I reckon it's virtually impossible to find one with exactly the spec you want (or would have chosen when buying new) so in the end you have to go for the one that is the best compromise. For me, a used car should be bought more on age, mileage and condition rather than the exact spec/colour etc.

Good luck though, they are great cars! Be careful not to waste the summer looking for the perfect one rather than driving though!!

When checking the rear springs, is there anything in particular I should looking for? Cracks?

Not a lot you can see until they go and usually its the bottom section - difficult to spot without the wheel off or on a ramp. When driving you can hear a metallic clunking from the rear offside / nearside depending on which one has gone (or both). This is the coil which has broken and clatters around in the bottom fitment for the spring.

Thanks for your reply guys, advice is really appreciated

Blowers, what Indy did you use?

Going to look at one this week, fingers crossed it will be the one.

Well after a long search I finally have a Z4!!!!

By the time I got it home it was really late, but the next day I was up early and gave it a full valet. I'm sure you've all seen a sterling grey z4 but heres some pics.

A good spec motor as well.

Sat nav tv
Xenons
Parking sensors
Wind deflector
Folding mirror
Cruise control
Sound system upgrade.

I have one question. How do you control the roof and windows from the key? Seen a few that do this. And wondered if it was something that could just be enabled.
