Newbie looking at the E89

All good advice again thanks.

Does anyone here have a used car warranty for their E89 and are they worth it?
Also what is the difference between an m sport and the standard or what’s it called? I notice the alloys and front bumpers but can’t see much else.

Thanks kindly.

Havn't driven a M sport model but from previous experiences of BMW's when looking for an E91(3 series estate) I deliberatly looked for the SE model to avoid the hard M Sport suspension. Very hard to find a really good spec one with Idrive , m sport seats and steering wheel and decent 18" alloys. Lots of E89 SE's been specced with sport seats and steering wheel so a lot easier to find. Can't comment on the difference in the ride on the Z'd as was lucky to pick up a 35i with the adaptive Msport suspension so best of all worlds. Having said that never tried it in any thing other then comfort mode, which suits me fine with the non runflat tyres on 18" wheels. Suggest you try both and take particular notice of wheel size and if tyre's runflat(Bridgestones horriibly bad ride) or non run flats to see which suits you. Sport seats an essential for me, really comfortable.

I have an RAC warranty but have never had to use it, not certain it is worth it but at £300 a year, won't take a lot to meet that cost if something goes wrong.

Hi OGR, might have but got taken ill at the weekend and ended up in hospital, hopefully on the mend so as soon as I’m fit again I may take a trip to look at a car.

Good to read the posts on here though, can now identify what specs come with each model. I never knew that most things on a e89 were optional extras... some people must have paid a fortune to get all the toys from new.

I hope it was nothing serious and that you are recovering quickly.

Yes, everything was optional, even indicators

Depending on budget an Msport highline similar to mine is specced well with a raft of optional extras - upgraded alloys, iDrive plus extended lighting pack and comfort pack (not access) giving a load of extras such as PDC (F&R) / wind deflector / storage Pack. Extended lighting is puddle lights / lights in door handle and behind the seats.

Just watch people advertising SE Highline as Msport - can normally tell as no iDrive.

Thanks I’ll be good soon I’m sure, I’ve got so many pills I’m rattling.

Good advice on the msport highline very nice but think it may be over budget. Still as long as it’s a manual and 6 pot I’ll be happy...... I think.
On another point I’ve checked all over but is there an Indy BMW specialist on the east side of Norfolk?
Oh and what plug in OBD reader would be good for this model, I keep hearing foxwell...?

Glad you will be ok.

I bought my Highline for £10k from a garage with 74k on the clock so can be had reasonably

No idea on an indy in Norfolk but there us a section on here for garage recommendation which may help - https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=4

Not certain on the OBD better off asking someone else on that one :(

Hope you are feeling better... if you do see a car advertised, you can always ask this lot what are the plus points or the minuses, might save you a journey :roundel:

Hi Ash,

Hope you have recovered?

Any news os a car?

Hi there, sadly I’m still ill, I’m never ill normally so this is hard work, especially when you want to go and view a car.

I’ve got one in mind but I’m sure it will disappear before I’m ready to travel.

Sorry your still ill, maybe someone on here will view it for you - it snow unheard of its close to them.

Have you spoke to Gwest44 about his one - decent car and spec for the money

Yes I had and It’s on the list, was going to venture up but sadly as you know for reasons I couldn’t make it.

It has the spec for sure and the price is right, just would be great to see it in person. I enquired about getting an RAC inspection to which they replied it takes about a week for a inspector to arrive at the vehicle, I said that’s mad as the car could be sold and I’ve forked out £250, I Would have expected them to turn up within 48 hours.

Surely that's refundable if the car is sold in the meantime - I would image Gwest would do a walk round and he has been a member a while so not just joined to sell a car which is also a good sign

[ref]Smash[/ref],

Will who bought my 35iS recently was outside London and I’m in Argyll, Scotland so he couldn’t just pop up for a look. I took 3 or 4 2 minute videos of all the bits he wanted to see, shorter ones of the roof going up and down. One running through all the vehicle status on the iDrive and then got the car run through a diagnostic machine and screenshoted every completed check and sent those too him too.

He tried to get an RAC check but they don’t cover my area as it’s too remote so this is what we did in its place.

I identified a small issue, stone-chip on bumper and highlighted it and gave close ups of that.

As far as Will and I were concerned, this worked perfectly well and he felt the car had been accurately described and never got any surprises when he turned up in person.

As Sean says [ref]Gwest44[/ref], is an established member and I’m sure would accommodate any reasonable request to assist you
