Newbie - looking at sdrive23i

Hi All!

BMW newb here, with a massive interest in changing that :D

I have found a Z4 sdrive23i which looks gorgeous and I'm hoping to go and view it tomorrow. However, it is cheap for how much car is on offer and that always rings alarm bells with me, the dealer also has a by appointment only policy, is that iffy or am i being paranoid? I've done some research on the car but I was hoping you knowledgeable bunch could give me some tips on what to look out for if I'm going to view it? It's on the 296 alloys which I know are notorious for cracking so I'll be checking them, are there any other problems i need to look out for?

Thank you in advance!

There is much to read on the forum RE E89s if you search that specific area .
There is nothing to fear in buying + owning one providing you approach the potentials as you would any other car.
Buy on condition , service history , owners , spec & price plus of course a decent testdrive
Very few inherent faults to my knowledge , can i ask what you consider "cheap for how much car " is ?
I know the leggier ones are well into previous E85 price territory which is why i bought one  crazy car for the cash

Thanks for your reply! I will have a look at the forums!

Well, I might be completely off the mark but its just under £11k! And the car looks immaculate in the pics with 68k on the clock, full service history etc...

Is that your grey one pictured yours? Looks incredible!

Does the car you are looking at have Se or sport seats as its most likely not Msport spec ?
Also what year ?
RE the style 296 alloys , yes notorius for splits but possibly replaced under warranty at some point ?
Not sure how you would check them without being on a ramp as any splits will be on the back sides & most likely the rears due to ridiculously low 30 profile RFts

I am not sure to be honest, I've tried googling the different seats with no luck (probably me being blunt), but they are full leather & heated items. I am sure its not M Sport though.

Its 2009. Ahh I see, is there no way to check at all? They're lovely looking wheels but i dont want to be buying cracked wheels!

Jmt but a 68k 09 2.3i if Se seats i would be wanting on or close as to £10k & be wary as i watched the market for many months & the ones with Se seats can sit around for a good while
For comparison a private sale was listed on forum yesterday for a similar car around similar money but only around 25k miles covered :? no forum background but worth exploring if that's where you are heading
Myself i would be looking for a 09/59/10 Se but with sport seats & pay no more than £10500 between 30k/70k

Oh really? I think I'll try my luck knocking it down a bit then!!

This is the advert, do you know which seats these are? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201603262338359?sort=pricedesc&zero-to-60=fast&search-target=usedcars&make=bmw&radius=40&price-to=15000&minimum-badge-engine-size=2.0&page=2&maximum-badge-engine-size=3.0&model=z4&postcode=cm35sh&searchcontext=default&onesearchad=new%2Cnearlynew%2Cused&logcode=p

Thank you for your help by the way, its much appreciated Mr Wilks! :D

That looks a very nice example & a decent seller so if all stacks up on viewing & can be had for around £10500 id say a decent deal for you providing you don't hammer big numbers onto the clock & don't try bailing out between Oct & May
I'm sure once beside the car & behind the wheel you will be more than pleased

They are the M Sports seats

Heated Msport seats :) the E89 ones are a different league by comparison to previous & the inflatable bolsters are great when pushing on a bit 8)

Hey guys, went and viewed the car today without any plans to buy it and ended up chipping my car in and have returned home with a Z4!!

Absolutely love it! Will get some pictures up on Monday when I'm on my computer at work :driving: 8)

Love the car, its great to drive, it sounds spot on and silky smooth, and a definite upgrade from a fiesta zetec s!! Everyone I've seen has loved it and I've even had the neighbours over looking at it! :D

The car is in great condition, I gave it a wash and wax as soon as I got it home, the paint will be near on perfect once I give it a little bit of love. The interior is also lovely, with only a few marks here and there and a slightly shiny steering wheel, somehow the previous owner(s) managed to scratch the aluminium inserts above the air conditioning controls(?!) which is annoying, but its very minor.

A couple of things I wanted to ask you learned bunch... Servicing, i was ensured by the dealer it had a full service history but when i asked to see they said it was all electronic now on BMW's, I now know this to be true but is there any way of checking?

Cup holders. Does it have any? Haha! I cant find one anywhere and it just strikes me as odd that it doesn't!

Also, can anyone point me the right way for a wind deflector/breaker please? There are what looks like inserts for it between the hoops but no breaker.

Other then that I'm loving the car and am already sunburnt from top down motoring yesterday

Nice car, im so jealous! I'm still waiting to get mine while private plates are getting sorted and Saturday seems forever away... and it's a glorious day :headbang:
Enjoy.

Any BMW dealership will show you the service history when the plug your key into their system
Cup holders are in the center consul between the seats and are petty useless, there are no others
Looks like somebody has nicked your wind deflector ,should be with the car if you've got the fitments
Hope that's of help

I think you've got yourself a belter Jack & at the right money
You can attach pics by copy & paste image into small "IMG" box above post  my pic of your pics

Steering wheel shine is a 5 min fix that i did just last week , had a 125k shine now looks like this

CjunSLKWgAApv_q.jpg

Done with swarfega green & leather cleaner mixed together applied with a green fleecy kitchen sponge thingy :P

Pastry - the wait will be worth it although this week may drag a bit haha!

Cheers metal licker! Some bugger probably has nicked it  do you know where I could source one(not from BMW directly)? And mine has no cup holders then haha it has the BMW phone slot there instead..

Thanks Mr Wilks! :D ahh okay cool that's easier then what I was doing! Wow that looks like a brand new wheel, definitely stealing your technique - thank you!
