Morning guys,

Firstly hello!

New to the z4 infact all BMW's had quite the car history but never had a beamer, also never bought from a dealership before (aside one brand new car years ago) and straight away ive got an issue, the garage is Lookers in Braintree, i figure as the last couple of cars have bitten me ill just buy from a big dealership and have less stress, immediately my issue is upon conducting a hpi check myself, the car is registered as having outstanding finance...not a great start

I didnt expect that from such a large organisation, ill have to phone BMW finance and enquire as to the latest status and hope it was cleared, i put £500 down on a 54 plate Z4 2.2 SE so naturally abit worried, if there is outstanding finance when the company website and the employees all state that they are HPI checked finance clear, no crashes etc. then i should get my money back right?

Not to mention them lying about the agreed price and trying to charge me more once i sat in the office and trying to get out of paying for bumper damage not previously mentioned that 'ADAM' the employee said would be taken care off and resprayed.

Anyone had dealings with lookers or any thoughts on the situation?

Lookers statement on the website

Are all your quality cars HPI clear?
HPI is the UK’s premier car-checking company, providing independent assessments on the financial and legal status of each one of the country’s registered motor vehicles. HPI checks are extremely important for making sure that second-hand cars have not previously been stolen or involved in a serious accident, and do not have any outstanding financial agreements on them (which can result in blameless buyers having their second-hand car suddenly repossessed).
At Lookers, we use the services of HPI to carry out checks on every one of our vehicles. When you purchase a car from us, you can be completely certain that it does not have a chequered past.

Morning James & good choice on going for a Z , if you buy well then problem's are few & generally easily dealt with .
The list of issues with your chosen one does sound like a bad intro though
The car is on the high side moneywise for the spec ? The wheels don't look right either ? maybe off a Z3 perhaps ? A tad small so factor in the inevitable upgrade of £500 ish .
Maybe check out a few cars for sale on here to compare ?
best of luck however it works out

Sometimes cars from garages will show HPI finance because one garage is buying it from another. Was the same with my z4, but I checked all the paperwork and it all worked out okay.

Have a sniff of this one James for comparison , http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/z4-roadster/bmw-z-series-z4-se-roadster-2004/1258553
no question which i would go for 8)

Had to read this couple times your profile picture is very distracting haha That makes me feel better, ill phone BMW as the hpi says thats where the finance is and also lookers for some answers tomorrow.

I didnt pay the sticker price of course :) oh ive seen a few with these wheels so far? i would consider some new wheels for her, its the first time for not getting the top model but i wanted a 6 cylinder but better on fuel, its more for commuting than outright power, as later in the year i shall be making another show/track car!
I have been browsing the cars on here, but its BTCC time so thatll have to wait for later haha
Thanks! appreciate the views!

Hello and Welcome!

Nothing like a dealer to spoil your day :(

If the HPI indicated outstanding finance is still open, just walk away. There are loads for sale, some good ones on the forum marketplace and an excellent buyers guide.

However it works out, enjoy the car you buy!

Kick the garage and car into touch I would say and tell the Sales Manager why you are walking away.

Totally agree.

There are enough great examples kicking around that you have a choice. The money is in your pocket and as customer you are in control.
Let them sing for it.

And by the way 74k isn't that much mileage fora 04 BMW, barely run in! If it's been looked after and got all the receipts etc then you can be fairly sure it's OK. You can talk to the owner and get a garage or the AA to inspect it too for a small fee which bring great peace of mind

Ill see how the finance phone call goes, as finding one with a good spec is extremely difficult, the black/red combo with heated leather with sub 60k miles is extremely hard considering im buying via a dealership this time round, and i am based in the south east so things are more expense, infact this particular car is the cheapest for miles around with this spec.

The reason for the mileage is 70-80k is when ancillerys start failing even when the main components might be fine.

Hi and welcome :)

Thanks!

Just phoned the finance company, with the most helpful representative in the world... :? but apparently they hold an interest in the vehicle until tomorrow, so instead of taking their word i think its best that i phone again tomorrow as sods law is theyll withdraw the funds later today and itd be back to owing finance! but this is slightly better news now :)

thanks for everyones inputs  hopefully nothing else happens!

Hi James,

Welcome again. Saw this and thought of you....

http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=50656

Might be good as a fall back position. Cheaper, lower mileage and the insurance etc between 3.0 and 2.2 isn't actually that much.

Just looking at some alloys/tyres for her now :) to go with the black bodywork and red leather interior im considering these :D

its the alpina oem wheel tyre size so it should fit without issue!

Anyway looking at some ipod connection ideas, ive seen one type id like but not a uk seller? i dont particulary want to have to rip everything out and do a self build or put an aftermarket unit in, is there another OEM looking option?
