Newbie - Just Ordered

Hi folks

Just ordered a new Z4 20i Sdrive MSport benefiting from the 2.9% APR and hugh discount. I have a few questions as I still have some time to amend spec

- I've not ordered the optinal 19inch which look fab and arguably better than the standard 18's. I found the 19's quite skittish in the wet and bumpy. Do the 18's give a more comfortable ride than the 19's? I'm used to the hard ride - had a 1 series coupe previously but would prefer a more compliant ride.
- Is the adaptive M Sport suspension worth getting or just a gimmic? Can you notice the ride being more comfortable on comfort even with the 19's?
- Professional nav - what are peoples views? Worth the 2K (does it have 3D maps and full post code entry). The basic professional radio looks out of place / out of date compared with what you can get these days.
- Creaks & rattles - I'm a little concerned by peoples experienced on this forum. Is it hit and miss like most cars or has everyone had issues with their roof's rattling?
- Service costs - dealer suggested that there was no point buying the service pack due to the miles I do (6K per year). Any idea on how much a 1st service cost at 2years / 18K miles
- Sound qualify - found the quality in previous 1 series shocking. Would like to get the upgrade however probably can't hear much anyway?

Looking forward to my first concertable however am a little concerns by reported issues.

It depends on what you want from the car. Go for heated seats. You can get the roof down when it's chilly. I decided to go bigger engine rather than sat nav, upgraded sound etc. That's down to what you want from the car.

I've had 18's and 19's and to be honest barely notice much difference except the 19's look better!

I've had two brand new E89's and not had a squeak from either of them, roof hasn't made a noise at all.

Don't forget that out of all the E89's sold the people that mostly come on here are going to come on to have a gripe about problems. There'll be loads of people who don't come on and tell you how brilliant the car is.

Don't worry and just look forward to getting your new zed. They are amazing cars and you will love it and most probably have no problems at all.

What Carol said

I love my Zed and apart from the fact I'm changing brake pads again tomorrow no problems. But that's me not the car :)

Thanks - interesting, if the ride quality is almost the same might go for the 19's. Fingers crossed on roof rattles, I have major OCD.

Have gone for White and coral leather. Also ordered the comfort pack and heated seats which makes the car pretty well equipped. Hoping the discount will outstrip some of the depreciation. The Merc SLK on the other hand has amazing residuals. 8)

Carol is quiet correct, I am the proud owner of a 2.0 sdrive m sport with 19" and to be honest I love it....

Just get it and enjoy.

And the thing that happened today was so well " funny" in a way.... I was driving with the roof down and a guy looked at my car and forgot about the car infront of him and hit it ........ Bless him .....

Grissom

Again Carol is spot on.

Ive never found a car with an associated forum that doesn't have posts where people have problems. The vast majority have no problems at all.

I cant comment on the 19s on the Z but Ive gone from 19's on an e92 coupe to standard 17s on the Z and havent regretted it as I was fed up with the ride, the lack of rim protection and the tyre bill.

As for the car, its a thing of beauty. The Girls at work love it, the lads have bought me a plastic hair dressing kit but individually on the quiet have all confessed they'd get one if they could. Only the other day at a VW dealers, I parked up and one of the mechanics fitting a part on a car in the car park remarked "nice car" as I walked past.

Enjoy your car and dont worry about issues that will probably never happen

Carols right in that forums can be disproportionate or misunderstood. You've no doubt seen posts from me with issues, and a few other members too but most are ok.

Some don't have issues at build but come later, Carol for instance, after some gripes to her dealer about a lack of hill start assist had an awful experience with the dealers attempt to make amends, resulting in the car being replaced.

So not all gripes on here are about the cars initial quality. It does seem like they've addressed a lot over the years and new ones are likey to benefit from BMW improvements. Most issues now are on 2009/10 cars but equally that may be age related.

Congrats on the order, blimey 2.9%? thats good going, at that rate will have to change mine now as the mileage is nudging a 1000 :D

Regarding the alloys, I never noticed any difference in ride quality betweem 18s and 19s so if you prefer the larger size go for them as changing afterwards will be very costly 2K for the alloys and 900 quid or so for the runflats, having said that I like the standard 18s.

The professional headunit looks OK IMHO and would be wary trying to fit anything aftermarket as it will look just that, sound wise its not the best but its the speakers more than anything than cant handle bass tones if you have the volume up with the roof down.

Can't comment on prof nav although from seeing other peoples posts its more than just a sat nav, just depends if you're the type that likes to fiddle with those types of things, more choice then I tend not to bother trying to work it all out :D

Service pack, if you don't do the mileage its a waste of money.

Problems.....I've had non with mine to speak off, no rattles at all, I get the odd creak from the roof in hot weather when the cars been standing but goes once on the move. I've had a few drops of water get in through the corner of the roof seal on the passenger side but has only done it once or twice and then it was just a few drips so nothing to worry about unless it gets worse.

The worse aspect I find is trying to get comfortable behind the wheel as the seat adjustments are dire and difficult to fine tune so memory/electric seats would be a must next time, my Z3 I can just jump in and it feels right straight off, the Z4 doesn't and I find I'm always adjusting and fiddling :(

Tim.
