Hey guys

I've been stalking for a couple of days.

Currently drive the Golf GTI... It's got 140k on the clock, so it's time to change.

Looking for a Z4.... The reason is: most of my day I drive around a lot of B roads and country lanes to see my clients. I think owning the Zed would turn this from a chore to a pleasure.

I would really like a 2.5 but realistically as this is my work vehicle I'm looking for a 2.0 due to running costs..... Oddly insurance is the same for both cars...

Couple of questions:

What does the sport over the se and is it worth getting the face lift.

I have about £6/7k to spend.... Hoping to get a grey/silver sport with less than 70k miles...

Hi and welcome - you don't have to give any reason for buying a Z4 on here - we've heard it all before! Been there and done that. :D

Re specs and buying have a look at the links in Wondermike's signature block - excellent info and advice. Good luck with the search

My twopenneth

Ideal spec for me would have been Sport but without the sport suspension (I drove both)
Sport gets better seats than SE (definitely worth it)
Sport also gets bigger wheels but I guess you could fit those easily yourself if you got an SE
My Sport also has a small chunky MFSW which is really nice

Cheers guys....

I think it will be worth holding out for the sport as sports seats sound nice.... Really like the m spec alloys I've seen on a few cars on the forum... So will keep an eye out for those too.

My SE is a bit newer than you are looking for but came with sports seats so don't rule it out. The SE steering wheel is too thin but replaceable :)

I would opt for the Sports seats given the chance, they hold you much better (my SE has the normal ones) and during spirited driving you can move about a little :D

Not sure on the true mpg differences between the 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 for round town, but I went for the 3.0 as I was originally looking for a 2.5 and everone said you may as well gofor the 3.0, which some said had slightly better mpg in real world driving as you dont have to rev it so much, my Z4 gives around 28mpg around town, which is only 2mpg down on my previous car (160 2.0D Insignia) and I know which I would rather have!

To give you an idea I paid £6750 with 50K on the clock on an 05 plate - originally seen on ebay and the transaction was completed in person.

Look on Ebay and Auto Trader, maybe some bargains this time of year - best purchase you will make and definately a pleasure for your commute - just a word of caution for commuting purposes to and from work make sure you are happy with the suspension, it is hard, esp if you have the sport suspension

Pre face lift are all SE models so no choice, but if you get a face lift it will be easier to move on in sport guise.

Think I recall somebody recently talking insurance for younger drivers and the 2.0/2.5 anomaly. Was put down to boy racers opting for the smaller engine but in reality the insurance would be higher than even a 3.0 litre. Could have got that totally wrong but it was something like that!

Also, I'd look at the 3.0. MPG across all will be negligible and within just a few miles, give or take.

Welcome to the forum.

Great info thanks....

The insurance on the 2.0 and the 2.5 both came out at £400.

It's more the mpg..... I hear the 2.0 will get around 36 whlist the 2.5 will only hit the 32. As I do a reasonable milage around 1200 per year.... Saying that.. The difference in cost using those figs is around £150pa so no biggie....

Hy head is saying be sensible... but of course my heart is saying 2.5..... How predictable eh

So from the above posts it's a 2.0 facelift sport........ I will not rule out the 2.5 if a tidy one comes along in budget / spec etc

I take it there is no point considering the 2.2 as the economy is the same as the 2.5 ..
