Hi all, newbie here, don't know much about these Z4's, I do know there pretty cool looking. I have been looking at the Sky, and Solstice and then found these.

Can anyone give more some insight on these cool cars, pro's and con's. I want a 2 seat conv. and these look like they fit the bill.

are you looking at new or used? They're quite different in some respects, you can have a brand new sky redline for the same price as a couple year old Z4.

A good friend of mine has the sky redline and it certainly has nice power and seems more well built than most of GM's line. But the zed still has much better build quality. I also just feel like somethings lacking with the GM roadsters, they just dont feel as good to drive. And the motor in the base versions is pretty bad. Give us some more details on what your after

Do a search on Sky's and Solstice's and you will find a lot of info here.

Just remember, this is a Z4 forum so most of the options will be biased, except for the one's who have owned one....

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks guys, I'm up to date on the sky and the solstice. I'm lookin for one (Z4) that is a few years old. I seen them on Ebay for @ 17-20k. Does that seems like a right price. I always thought BMW's were more expensive then that.

yeah an early Z4 should be in that range. As far as I know the Z4 is very reliable. The engines go in just about every BMW and essentially have been around for 15+ years. Its part of the reason why I bought a Z4 after owning many other bimmers over the years.

A Z4 in that price range will have already hit its early and biggest chunk of depreciation so at this point it should hold its value really well. The GM cars on the other hand (especially if brand new) will drop quickly in value. So make sure you factor that in too.

I'm pretty stoked, the more and more I look at these things the more I'm hooked, pretty sharp rides. Is any one motor better then the other (2.5 or 3.0) what other options would you guys recommend?

Is any one yesr better then the other, they started making the Z4 in 2002, correct? Sorry just learning.

if i remember correctly....on sky and solstice, u have to get out to put the top down...or at least it's manual with a lot of steps

Z4's much nicer, although SLK is much nicer inside than Z4 :)

I test drove a Solstice and after having two Z4' and a Z3 I am spoiled. The Solstice is a great car but with the manual top and NO trunk room it lacks a lot. I don't care how creative you get, my wife would never be able to pack a Solstice for a six day road trip like she can a Z4. My two cents. A convertible no matter what kind is a great driving experience. Solstice trunk below. Good Luck

Reason I asked was if there is someone that is a member here that lives close by perhaps he/she could give some insights as to the real value of this vehicle. There are some (including me) that are on their 2nd Z4. On top of which there is the intangible and imbedded BMW quality. This is a special car and it has special qualities just like the drivers of them.

Yea, I got to get out and start looking at these hot rods, never looked at them up close, they sure look nice on here.

Ever owned a roadster before or anything similar?

Well, back in 06 I bought a new vette, had it for a whole 2 months, they came to my senses that I could not afford the thing. I liked it, have scared to park it anywhere, had several Harley's before and after the vette to many people getting shorten of life on bikes, kinda gave that up for now. Raced 4 wheelers (quads / atv's) getting too old for that, so here I am....
