I'm new on here so quick into of myself; I'm 21 and an Estate Agent who currently owns a Mazda 3 but been looking for the right Z4 for the last few months! I've just sold my car to a family member and have up to £10k

Don't want to give away too much in case someone beats me to it :P but I am going to see a car on Monday with the view of driving away the same day.

It's a black 2.0l Z4 with 35k on the clock and 07 reg! All for a little over £8k

Spec:

BLACK, Upgrades - Heated seats, 6 months warranty, Next MOT due 30/11/2014, Full service history, Excellent bodywork, Black Full leather interior - Excellent Condition, Tyre condition Excellent, Standard Features - Active sports leather/sports fibre upholstery, 18" M double spoke alloy wheels - style 135, CD player with MP3 decoder, Automatic air conditioning/automatic air recirculation, Electric Power steering with Servotronic, Dynamic stability control plus, M Sports seats, Alarm, Auxiliary point for auxiliary devices, Immobiliser, Manual seat adjustment, M leather steering wheel, Smokers pack, Parking aid, DRIVES SUPERB LOOKS IMMACULATE A VERY NICE EXAMPLE THIS CAR IS A STUNNER.

Does is sound like a good buy?

Look forward to getting to know you all if any future meets too :driving:

Oh I like your secrecy... that will be the one at F*******d cars then?
Looks nice buddy. If you are sure that a 2.0l will be the right engine for you.

Check it's had the Inspection 1 service done c.30,000 miles. It should have had an oil service at c.15,000 miles too, and potentially might have had in intermediate oil service at some point.

£8k sounds ok from a dealer, but I would hope to get it for less if it was a private sale.

Welcome to the forum 8)

Looking at the Autotrader web site it looks like it is on the money and surely something with such low miles must be a fairly safe bet. The last snippet was said in the sure and certain knowledge someone is going to advise otherwise!

If it looks the muts, drives like it too and all other things being up to scratch (service history for example) then at £8K I would have thought you should be fine.

Probably best to get yourself a 118d, a top man suit and a lifetime subscription to "Talking BS Monthly" instead

In all seriousness, I can't help with the valuation, but good luck with the search, hope it's a good'un for ya.

 I get this all the time! Thanks for the intro to the forum :P

Looks like a decent example, but for £10k you could get yourself a decent facelift (06 on) 2.5 or maybe even 3.0. Higher miles perhaps, but if you get a well looked after one you could get an Si Sport with all the toys, all leather upholstery, sports seats & suspension etc. etc.

Don't rush in, whatever you buy, check the service history is pukka as Adamski says, and buy on condition & history over miles. These cars don't really have age-related issues except the roof motor going (especially if it's lived outside all it's life) and window regulators. Rear springs have a tendency to snap too, so check them if you can.

I'm only 21 with 3 years No Claims and do some travelling so 2.0l is the biggest i'll go. From what I'm aware it is the facelift model and has leather upholstery.

Thanks for what to look out for as that was my next question so I'll check them out

2.0 litre is sensible if you're doing a bit of travelling and mpg important (and your age for insurance)

07 2.0i Sport comes with those M sport seats wheels steering wheel and suspension as standard and sport versions often command higher prices so it's (other) spec you should be looking at (as well as service history mileage and owner etc).

At 8+K you will be losing a lot in depreciation over a couple of years - applies to most Zeds bought from dealers - I'd want a Used Approved Car from a BMW dealership at that price level.

Have you taken a look at what's available at BMW dealerships? There are a lot of 2.0 litres available - some with excellent spec.

Are you in a rush or might you be able to see what comes up on the Forum? there are often cars with good history and many of the weak points sorted.

Adamski and Bing are 'on the money' with their comments - there are loads about for sale - but I know what it's like buying your first Zed - my first Zed was bought without recourse to the Forum - worked out ok though.

Good luck with your purchase - remember - there are lots for sale.

Thanks for all the tips :)

I'm in a bit of a situation, basically my current 1.6 Mazda 3 is been bought by my Grandparents as they are getting older and need a car like mine so they need it asap.

I've had a look through the BMW dealers (60mile radius) of my area and the cheapest with the same spec is shy of £10k so this one I've seen looks on paper a good buy.

I'll just have to see when I go look at it on Monday and check the paperwork, suspension and rest of the above you've all mentioned etc.

Ive viewed the advert and pictures the car with this milage is bang on the money for an independent dealer in my opinion. As long as it looks as good in the metal and the history and service is all up to spec. Go and view it, take someone else with you who wont be blinded by 'A shiney black sports car' which you are bound to be buddy. :D good luck.

Go for it; 10% deposit and the rest over 25 years by which time it will have depreciated to little and then appreciated to lots by 2039 (2014+25)

I can't speak for the financial side of things with respect to running costs and such, but wouldn't you rather opt for a z4 with a straight six?

Personally I didn't have much hassle insuring my coupe at 21.
