Hi folks

I have been directed here from Pistonheads for some advice :)

Firstly, I've been looking into getting the 2.5si model, I have a max of £8-9k to spend after I graduate from University in August next year.

Just wanting to know, when looking should I look to see if the roof regulator/motor has been fixed or changed?
How much roughly is servicing?
Have there been any facelifts through the the Z4 if so is there much of a difference?
If I get a 2.5 can the ecu be easily remapped?
Common faults?
Are they comfy enough to be used as a daily? 250miles a week?

That's about it :P
Would be grateful for any advice :driving:

When I looked getting into a facelift (post 06) that was decent seemed more like 10k, in the end I opted for 3.0 non facelift loaded with toys, yes the extra
30bhp would be nice but the normal 3.0 is hardly slow!

I dont think much can be done with remaps and personal choice but KN Airfilters etc can finish MAF's if your unlucky, im not chancing it again personally. Remaps only really work well on turbo cars, especially diesels..

Comfy, I`ll tell you after I get rid of my run flats lol, but you get used to it quick :)

Oh and another question, I tend to fill up with super unleaded for my suzuki (40ltr is about £55-60), is the Z4 okay to run on the norm 95 stuff? Should then have more pennies for servicing or little upgrades :D

Personal choice, I find higher performance engines work better on Super and the cost is relatively small compared to what people spend on other items :)

Thanks for that Alastair

So a 3ltr would be better, as I can see the prices for a 2.5 and 3ltr aren't far apart.

Think, removing bits of the foam and possible exhaust upgrade (eisenmann!) is the main things I would do!

Firstly, I've been looking into getting the 2.5si model, I have a max of £8-9k to spend after I graduate from University in August next year. *************** Plenty of money should get a cracker for that amount there are a lot for sale and a good choice

Just wanting to know, when looking should I look to see if the roof regulator/motor has been fixed or changed?****** That would be a bonus
How much roughly is servicing? **************Independent is cheaper than BM to be honest the basic servicing is fairly straight forward depends if you want to keep service history
Have there been any facelifts through the the Z4 if so is there much of a difference? ************ Face lift at 06 de gingered.
If I get a 2.5 can the ecu be easily remapped? ************ recent remap thread gave about 20-25 hp and smoothed things up on a 3.0
Common faults? ************* Theres a thread or buying guide some where on the site with all the data. Had mine just over a year and windscreen mech (just wear and tear) nothing much more youve mentioned roof motors but touch wood............
Are they comfy enough to be used as a daily? 250miles a week? ************ Yes easy

That's about it :P

Iv just went on a test drive of a 3ltr coupe today, wow. It feels like a power plant compared to my Suzuki. Did feel slightly cramped, may just be me but I'm going to give a a soft top a go and see how it goes. Absolutely love the noise.

The Coupe only comes with the 3.0 Si engine which has 265bhp
You can get roadsters with the 3.0 i engine which I think is 228 BHP
not sure of the 2.5 i and Si outputs. Think the "2.5" changed to a 3 litre engine from a 2.5 after the facelift about 2006.

2.5si is 218bhp. Not a lot between it and the 3.0si, performance-wise, but they are similar money, have similar fuel economy and the 3.0si usually comes far better spec'd.

Alan's list is really handy. Not a lot to add to that, although I would personally subtract £500 from your budget to cover replacing runflat tyres (if the car has them) with non-RFTs. It will probably make a bigger difference to your enjoyment than 2.5si vs. 3.0si or any of the optional extras.

Iv already got the checklist a while back from someone else. Thanks for the offer.

Noticed that all the good looking soft tops are 2ltr versions. Seems to be an unlimited of different colours for the 2ltr. Yet, the 3ltr and 2.5s are either silver, black or red.

I have a 2.5Si and it's awesome. Read the FAQ section for things that can go wrong.... rear springs...bonnet catches etc...

I do run mine on unleaded but noticed it runs better on super.

As for being cramped...you get used to it and it's actually quite spacious inside. You can't beat that feeling of getting the roof off, music up loud and enjoying the ride (which you will a 1000x more when the run flats are removed).

What did you get in the end?

Got a 3ltr si, with a brilliant spec. Only thing its missing is nav screen. Still under bmw warranty aswell. Pictures soon :-)

Been cared for 6 years by the previous owner, who has owned 2 other Z's before this one. He didn't seem to know of z4-forum.

Already purchased a half cover for the roof and a stubby aerial as the standard makes the Z look like a big RC car.

That is the exact same spec and colour etc as mine..

Had mine remapped and custom exhaust fitted ....made a difference in that the torque band is now lower in the rev range and it sounds very nice...

Nice choice...
