Newbie from Surrey

Hi all

My name's Tom, I'm 21 and I'm from Surrey, I currently drive an Audi A3 2.0TDi S-line DSG. After years and years of wanting a TT, and having test driven a Coupe and a Convertible, it didnt live upto my expectations. I then started looking at S2000's, and having been quoted £1700 to insure one in January, i got quoted £4,500 in Feb on the same car (by the same company - strange ay?) A guy from work bought a 3.0 Z4 a few months back and I've been admiring it for a while now.

Finally a weeks decided to see if I could get insured on a Z4, and hey presto I could :D so the search started.

Found a silver 03 Z4, 40k on the clock, 108's, heated seats and FBMWSH and today I put a deposit down on it :D

Cant pick it up until 24th March though because thats when my insurance ends with Direct Line, and I have to move companies to insure it, and as I am 3 weeks away from a second no claims, didnt see the point in leaving them now.

Couldn't work out how to img the pics from the dealer, so here is a URL to my Flicker

Welcome!

I have had a couple of S2000s and a couple of Z4s. The Z4 is a better 'only car' than the S2000 so you have made the right choice in my opinion, it is more torquey and refined which is why I draw this conclusion.

I have also had a couple of Z3s and they are even cheaper still to insure, even the 3.0. More of a cruiser than a sports car though.

Similar situation to when I bought - was pleasantly suprised on the insurance for a Zed.

Where abouts in Surrey are you?

Welcome.

I had an S2K before i picked up my Z.

The S2k is more of a hooligan's car - great fun - but the £400 pa rfl is a joke!

The Z4 is more refined and feels much faster and the bigger displacement is great for the torque. Also the spec available on the Z4 is better, as is the stock audio.

But in terms of joy to drive i think the S2K takes it!

Hi and welcome

Having looked at the photos and the dealer, it am surprised you needed to put down a deposit down as NUN is required...
Same spec as mine, you wont be disappointed :driving:
I too had an S2k, these are less twitchy. You will note, on this forum, the abscence of people losing their cars on the wet motorway or ending up in a ditch on the twisties

texasjohn - a couple of Z4's and S2k's? Blimmy, sounds good to me buddy

paddy wright - cheers mate

Rust Z4 - thank you

gannet - cheers

daveg - cheers, yea couldnt believe insurance, thats why I hadnt looked before, as I thought there would be no chance. I'm at the Laleham end of Staines.

aquazi - yea think i prefer the Z4 overall, although would loved the experience the hooliganism of the S2K, but economy is also an issue for me as i drive a 40 miles a day for work just getting there, and I think the Zed will be far more economical than the S2K.

m44rrt - Hi, what is NUN? I put deposit down as he is holding it until 24th and didnt want to risk losing it, he only wanted £250, but we put £1000 down. I was browsing on an S2K forum prior to making my decision about what to buy, and all people were talking about was how bad they were in the rain / snow - so think I may have made a good choice.

Lucy - Hi, and thank you.

Welcome :driving:
u definately made the rt choice going for the z4,and (imho) the 3.0 is a good balance of performance/running costs, etc btwn the 2/2.5s and the m cars :D

tho i wld have an m rdstr in a second :)
