Hi
I’ve had my E85 for a couple of weeks and managed a weekend in Wales just before lockdown. It was great throwing it around to get used to it and even managed to get the roof down for a bit. I’ve got a couple of niggly questions which aren’t critical but would appreciate anything someone may have to offer when you get a moment.

1. The roof comes down but doesn’t ‘latch’ as I have to push it down the last bit. It also affects the final movement as I have to then raise the windows via the switches. It comes up no problem.
2. I seem to have an 8 speaker set up. I’ve read of 6 and 10 speaker set ups so ask ‘why mine?’. I’m thinking of getting 2 OEM subs in the cubbys behind the seats (making it a 10) so ask if it’s a simple plug n play. I’m old enough to know life’s not that simple.

I’m sure there’ll be more questions so watch this space.

Stay safe

Welcome to the forum, and bonus points for photos in your 1st post!

Especially as your car looks fantastic, especially with those wheels.

Sorry I can't help with your questions, but as far as the first one goes I have only had Coupes!

Hopefully someone will be along soon with some suggestions.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I got lucky with the wheels although they do need a refurb and will need new tyres too as I’ve got 4 odd ones. I also got electric folding mirrors too and I’m looking to get it coded so I can bring them in when locking it.
On the whole, it’s been great so far taking it to the supermarket. Can’t wait for lockdown to be over so I can put it through it’s paces :driving:

Hi and welcome. Lovely looking car.
I cannot really help with your issues, but they exactly replicate the way my wife's recently acquired 03 2.5i works.
The roof sits about the same as yours and I cannot push it down far enough to lock without excess force, which I don't really want to do.
However, as I read that later cars did not have the lock I assumed it didn't achieve anything, so have left it well alone, other than a bit of tape on it to stop the hood rattling against it.
Are the windows supposed to come fully up again? Do they if you push the roof right down?

So, to provide you with an update, on my way home along the M62, I called at the Zed Shed At Newton le Willows and spoke with Mike about these queries. He said the roof issue is most likely due to the roof being treated and a simple comparison with one of his many other Z4’s in his car park showed my roof fabric was stiffer, indicating some form of treatment has been applied. He also corrected me on my 8 speaker question to say there are only 6 as the two in the door cards are blanks. A 10 speaker DSP set up would set me back £750 :o I’d appreciate any advice on an alternative (and much cheaper) system
Stay safe

Welcome to the forum and Z ownership. Car looks great and agree with the positive comments on the wheels. Interesting about the hood, I’m about to treat my hood with an Autoglym product so be interesting to see how it turns out. All the best during lockdown.
