Newbie from Northamptonshire - Tyre Choice

What an excellent forum! Having recently taken over my daughter's 2006 Z4 2.5S I'm less than impressed with the ride and handling of the standard fit 225 50 R16 Bridgestone run flats. Is there a mid priced 16" tyre which all round resolves those issues?

Hi and welcome to the forum OP.

The Bridgestone run-flats don't seem popular, but I haven't tried anything else so cannot help you yet. :(

But I'll find out soon as I will be fitting a set of Falken winter tyres that are non-runflats - or you could do a search to get other members' views.

By the way, we like photos on here so if you have any we'd love to see them!

Welcome to the forum Yeloperil. Not heard of many Zeds on 16's I used to swear by Kumos on my FIAT Coupe on 16's.

Hi All,
To satisfy the photo police here are some. There is also a hard top but will not go on before the end of this month

Hi and welcome to the forum uniroyal rainsport 3 is a popular choice I have them on mine in 18 inch

Good advice from "jabber" , , get yourself a set of Uniroyals & you have all bases covered , maybe even consider going for a set of 17inch rims ?
Even something like these 2 sets with decent winter tyres will drive better than 16s with runflats & no reason why you couldn't run them all year round unless you plan serious motorway miles

Wow - lovely colour combination.

I hope the hard top is red too!

Thanks to you all for the positive feedback on our RedZed and yes the hardtop matches. We were led to believe at the time the colour was special order or limited edition?
I'm rather keen to stay with 16" rims as the car came with an immaculate spare set bur unfortunately fitted with the exact same run flats. I'm looking for comfort rather than all out performance of a new choice of non run flat tyres. As for the risk of a puncture that is covered by a BMW pump and sealant kit in the boot.
I'll investigate the Uniroyal Rainsport option and if anything else comes to mind I would be keen for your feedback.
Many thanks.

Yelo, where are you in Northamptonshire, CFM bear Blisworth are a Black Circles fitter and are a good option for tyre fitting.

I'm on Vredsteins but will go the Uni RS3's next. My brother has them on his Boxster and rates them.

Hi Lance,
Looks like Uni RS3's are coming out favourite choice. I'm 10 minutes tops from CFM at Blisworth and who I have used before with tyres ordered from Black Circles, they did an excellent job.

I've done a couple thousand miles on my rs3's. Very impressed with them so far, although i don't tend to drive like an f1 racer. :?

Hi Chapeau,
On the Tyrereviews website ratings scale the Uni RS3's recently came 2nd out of 10 tyres tested with excellent wet performance and generally well balanced. However I read elsewhere they are noisy and average for fuel consumption.
As my wife will frequently be driving the RedZed she dislikes a hard and noisy ride so do you think she will be pleasantly surprised?

I've not used the RS3's but they are rated C for fuel consumption, A for wet grip and 73db for noise. For comparison, the Bridgestone RF's already on you car are F for fuel consumption, C for wet grip and also 73db for noise. For the money the Uniroyal's look good.

I moved up from 17s on super cheap budget tyres that sytner had fitted to the car up to 18s with rs3s. I can't say i have noticed any extra road noise but with the roof off the wind is always louder. As for ride quality hard to compare like for like due to tyre sizes but some of the other guys may be able to offer some opinions.
If noise is an issue you could always add extra sound proofing in the doors, its something i intend to do in the spring (or sooner if we have a nice week of weather)

welcome - I too am going to change from bridgestone RFT - I've got goodyear F1 AS3 on my M3- and they are superb.

I found Uniroyal 3 wear quite quickly - but they are good
