Hi all,

im Mark from down in the far southwest of Cornwall, after browsing the forum for a few weeks I thought it was time to register, I'm currently in the market for a Z4 as a weekend toy so will be doing some research on here and asking for advice some time soon no doubt and hopefully soon will have one sat on the driveway. :)

Welcome to the forum OP!

Plenty of useful advice available on here - even if you aren't sure which model you want you should be able to find out the relative benefits and potential pitfalls (even Z4s have some issues)!

Hope you find one you like soon, then we will need some photos!

Good luck.

Hi and welcome.

Hope that you find what you're looking for soon! And don't forget that posting pics is a MUST!!

Thanks for the warm welcome...
I'm planning to go and view a 2.5 this weekend, is there any links to any sites I can check the history on as I have the registration and full vin, just wanted to do some homework first

Welcome to the forum, start by checking the MOT history:
https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

Also here's a VIN decoder site:
https://www.bmwvin.com

If you go on the dvla site you can pore over the cars mot history, there's some vin decoder sites that give the new spec of the car as well

Hello again OP!

Obviously you can check MOT history on the "gov.co.uk" website using the Reg. No. and make.

This site will give you the original BMW specification of the car using the last 7 characters of the VIN:- https://www.bmwvin.com/

Not sure of the age of the one you are looking at, but there was a facelift (or LCI in BMW-speak) in early 2006 IIRC. Pre-facelift cars had a version of the M54 engine, post-facelift use a version of the N52.

When you check the spec. be aware that plenty of Z4 owners have retro-fitted other features (which is easier on the pre-facelift cars as they had pre-wiring for many of them) - my current Z4C wasn't built with cruise or pdc (parking sensors) but now has both! Putting Sport seats into an SE model is also quite popular!

If the car is post-facelift I think there is quite a difference in power output on the 2.5 between SE and Sport models.

Lastly, you could also try heading to the E85/E86 part of the forum and search for "buying guide".

Slightly beaten to it, but good luck and I hope you like the one you are seeing!

Welcome aboard Mike. Great to see new members in the area. Be sure to keep your eyes pealed on the meets board. Once you have your hands on a Zed. :D

Thanks for everyone's help, well I picked up my z4 at the weekend, combined with a weekend away and a 1200 mile round trip up to Northumbria and the Lake District visiting family it's now finally back home and I love it, here's a quick photo up by hart side pass between Penrith and Alston.

Hi Sparky, a road trip is a good way of bonding with your car :P
Is that pic from the hartside cafe? I was there myself with a couple of other members recently (weather was a bit kinder then)
