Hi all, I've just found this site and I'm well impressed. Once I sell my car privately I will have approx £4500 to spend. In the meantime I'll be gaining as much info as possible and hopefully will put it to good use. Could I realistically get a good 2.5 or 3.0. at this price, and if so,just how much difference is their between the two? Recently had a chipped Astra cdti 150, Audi tt 225, and just about to sell a mint, low mileage Fiesta st150. Any advice or comments will be appreciated, good or bad. Thanks in advance jayb.

I would have thought you're more likely to get a good 2003/2004 2.5 for that budget, but it's the right time of year to buy a Roadster so you could be lucky with a 3.0 which gives you a few extra additions (6th gear, Xenons, etc ) .
I got my 2.5 for around that figure and whilst high mileage it's been faultless since I got it 16 months back. Just look hard at the service history, read up on the forum's 'guide to buying' and don't let your heart rule your head.
Keep an eye on the Cars for sale section on here and you will more than likely get a cared for car.

Welcome along. Good luck with your search. Great bunch on here with good advice. If you can I would go for 3.0 as there's very little difference in fuel consumption & running costs. 
If you pushed your price point to 5K I think you would be able to consider a lower mileage early 3.0i.
