Newbie - car inspections

Hi all

Z4 is the weekend car I want :D

Have started looking and would be prepared to have an independent inspection done

IS he RAC OK or should I look to a local BMW specialist? I'm in Manchester, any recommendations in this area would be welcome

Looking forward to learning more from the forum
 
Hi and welcome. When I was jumping aboard to Z4 ownership I thought about getting inspections done but the costs for getting car like this inspected was approx £350-£400 but more importantly didn't actually protect you as the loopholes in the agreement were such that they gave me no confidence.

Unless you have no idea at all about cars then I would think it is worthless and you would be better buying from a dealer and gaining a six month warranty. That's what I ended up doing anyway.

It could be flawed thinking but it gave me a bit more confidence.

Pretty much like a Horizon warranty - Once your over the horizon it runs out.
 
I too remember the ridiculous 'get-out' clauses so didn't bother. A bit of a risk when buying privately but there's a lot of info on here for what to look out for. If you're buying from the trade you're covered anyway with your standard consumer rights.
You'd be better off getting a trusted mechanic to have a good look at the car.
 
https://mot-history.net/ is good for checking MOT details, obviously carry out the HPI/Write off checks as well.
 
Yeah, tbh, you'd almost be better off with a friendly knowledgeable forum member accompanying you! Obviously no warranty/reliance - which is somewhat similar to an inspector - but experience really is worth something.
