Newbie but I hate this forum already!

Ok so I don't hate it but its going to cost me money! Originally my plan was to budget aroung 5 - 6k and get myself a 2.5l then after reading through the forum for the last few weeks I decided on a 3.0, plus my situation has changed so mpg doesnt matter so much. I won't be buying a car for at least a few months but I thought having a good look through the forum in that time would give me some good ideas for mods etc.

I'm not new to the BMW scene as I had a 330ci about 7 years ago, this was great for around 6 months when I got slightly bored of the lack of power and moved up to the M3. I'm thinking now that I'm going to have the same problem with the 3.0 z4 so I guess I am going to have to go for the M which means more money, which in turns means more waiting to purchase the car till I save up the cash. So thanks to this forum I need to now get hold of at least 12k, maybe I just won't eat for the next 6 months just to save a few extra pounds. Although when it comes to spending this amount I can't help thinking is there anything else to consider as an option, an old 911, a new shape audi of some sort etc. Anyway I'll be lurking until I purchase something and I'll stick on a pic of my old M3 just for the sake of it.

hello and welcome, can you save up enough for a coupe?

I am sure he could, but then he might as well save a bit more and than get the real Z4 8)

Hi and welcome. Think you right going for the ///M coming from a M3.

I'm guessing you will make the right choice and get the proper one with the rag top as you were looking at a 2.5i

Good luck with your search.

Don't really want to spend more than 12K. Reason for this being for 8K you can get an ok 3.0 but after you have done the standard mods; front bumper, quad exhaust, lights, wheels etc then you've probably spent another couple of grand and it doesn't matter how much you spend on the engine it will never be close to the M which is why I don't mind my increase in budget. Plus I used to like the M3 being a convertible (should mention i don't have the M3 anymore and for the past few years have been driving a 1.4 diesel 206 :( ) Due to my present car I know that I can put up with only having 2 seats which makes the Z4 an ideal choice.

An interesting dilemma you will be having with yourself in the coming months mark :?
On the "old" 911 ? Put that to bed unless you really want one . sub £12k will only get you a watercooled 996 & whether that costs you a packet in maintenance issues is purely a game of chance , Look at it as a game of russian roulette with your wallet .
At least with a well looked after ZM there are very few horror stories to catch you with your pants down
Enjoy the searching

mark_s,

Great looking M3. After an E46 M3, there is absolutely no question you should get the same engine in a Z4 M - but the question is soft top or coupe.................
