Newbie and looking for my first Z4

Hi,

The title says it all really. I'm looking for my first Z4 and am very excited about it. I think I've found one that looks pretty good so may well have it by this time next week. It's a 2003 2.5i SMG with 90K on the clock (little concerned about the high mileage). It has lots of extras and just a few marks here and there. After market alloys though :o( Also bumper is cracked by the washer jets but not majorly noticeable. £7500 - good deal?? one of the cheapest I've seen around for sure.

I'm wondering whether a used car warranty will be worth it, has anyone else taken one out?

Doesn't sound overly expensive at first glance but you'll obviously need to check it out. Service history etc all would be good signs and I wouldn't worry too much about the 90k if it's been maintained. Check the FAQ for things to look out/listen for and be ready to walk away if it doesn't feel right. There will be others.

Thank you. I have taken it on a drive and nothing rattled. The Amber engine light was on and he said he'd fix that. The last service was 2008, he said he will get it done before I buy. I know that they have the service gauge so I'm hoping that's not an issue? I'll have a look at that checklist and FAQ now.

Servicing should be every 2years regardless of mileage also with a damaged bumper and check engine light on I'd personally walk away.
 
The check engine light could easily cost as much as half the cost of the car in a worse case. Even if the owner gets it out before sale I would still take by a dealer and get them to run a diagnostic on it to be safe.
 
whoa, ok I thought that was just an electrical thing if it's amber. How much is the diagnostics? sounds expensive!
 
I'm in the states so you'll have to do some converting but from 110 to 140 dollars and hour. But they will be able to tell you everything going on with the car.
I also took pout an extended service plan on the car too. So far it hasnt paid for itself but I got the belts idlers and waterpump replaced along with a broken
rearspring for a 100 dollar deductable
 
Shop around there are plenty to choose from, keep an eye on Gumtree, Autotrader and Pistonheads to name a few, if the cars not right walkaway and beware of overly cheap cars!
 
Well I went, I bought, I didn't like the whirring noise it was making so I went back and got my money back. Do your cars make a whirring noise? It was going up and down with the engine but it sounded a little to loud to be normal to me (although the guy said he couldn't hear it and it was fine). Dont know if I was being a bit paranoid but the car had nearly 100k on the clock so.... :idunno:
 
CSL - glad you got your cash back BUT why go for something with faults? Plenty of minters out there it just takes time and patience to find them.
 
I guess I was too impatient. it looked like the best deal. I've learnt my lesson and am just going to wait 'til the right one comes up. I only have a limited budget so I thought it was the best I could get for my money. Having had that experience though I think I'd rather keep the car I have rather than get a pretty car that that'll spend more time in the lay-by.
 
Ok so I've seen a beautiful looking 2003 (53) 3.0i pretty high spec for just under £9k. Would hope to get them down a bit but how cheeky can i be? :? Its a trader and I guess they must put a few hundred on for the haggling process? I'm a bit crap at the whole haggling thing :(
 
As said be patient lots of nice cars out there took me six months to find mine 3 years ago but was worth it and all the time i was looking i was saving more towards the car pushing up my budget
