Don't rule out the 3 litre as well - loads of bargains and almost as good as the M ;)
Like a Girlfriend telling you; "really, size doesn't matter"

Same price, strong colour and navigation which easily adds £1000 to a car.

Here's another with nav and also a good colour.

There's absolutely no way that i'd buy the car at Hippo unless it was dirt cheap. There's too many out there for the same/similar money that don't have any issue. Or if you're budget is a little less and you're searching for a bargain, try turning your attention to the Alpina Roadster S. It's more exclusive and will proabably hold it's value even better than an M.

I would'nt take a lot of notice of the "Doom & Gloom" merchants. What you have here is a very low mileage M for a potential killing. YES - the BMW warranty has been invalidated. However, as you said, that warranty would have run out in 10 months & the seller is offering a 12 month warranty on the engine!!

You are looking at an 8000 mile Z4M that cost £42-£45K new for less than £18K!! You should be able to buy it (dependant on your negotiating skills) for under £17K & as long as you are prepared to keep it until after your 12 month warranty expires, then the lack of the 1200 mile service means diddely squat to future owners... If it were me, I would judge the car on how it drives then immediately on purchase (or insist as a condition of purchase) that the engine, transmission & differential oils are renewed - cost to dealer, no more than £70!

The reason that BMW insist on the (free) 1200 mile service is that unlike modern engines, the Z4M has a cast iron cylinder block - rather than aluminium. This means that any "swarf" (tiny particles from the casting process) that come free in the first 1200 miles need to be washed out of the engine fairly quickly. You can appreciate that in an aluminium block engine, minute (soft metal) aluminium particles will do far less damage to piston rings & bearings than iron filings.... In my opinion BMW were over optomistic & the initial oil change should have been closer to 500 miles - but only time will tell.

I actually considered this particular car 2 weeks ago, but I can't stand black cars so I bought an Imola Red one on a 56 plate with 15,700 miles from Cooper Chelmsford last Saturday. Great car. Nothing the other side of £35K (secondhand) comes anywhere near.

Negotiate & buy it. You will regret it for years to come if you don't

Yeah I did some more research and despite been assured that the 3rd party warranty could be agreed with the insurance company I rang them myself and they said in the event of a claim they would look at the incomplete service history and not pay out so given I would be buying a car with no warranty and no option for me or a subsequent owner to have the chance to put warranty on it I offered them 16k......Not heard back yet lol.

TBH I would rather spend a couple of K more and get one with a less complicated history. I have 2 contenders (plus that red roadster outrun posted but its an ex fleet car) Hopefully will have a deal sorted out tomorrow on one of them. Very much looking forward to my first M car!!

Have to say a big thanks for the info you guys have given too a lot of stuff I wasnt aware of so its armed me with a lot of good info to know what to be looking for on these cars.

No 1200 mile service; no buy!!! My dealer was adamant about the 1200 mile service and was very clear about the voided warranty.

OK small update on this. Z4M Roadster 9k on the clock Inspection 1 to be done at a main dealer before collection but no running in service done (and therefore no warranty for the 6 months it would have had left)

£16k

Does that change things?

Looking at a similar one with correct history additional 1 yars 3rd party warranty and a couple more options for just under 19k

Inspection 1 isn't due till 30000 miles (or 4 years) isn't it?????

16k seems very low too for an M, even in this climate.

My personal opinion would be to still steer clear, I'd rather pay more for a car with the proper servicing/warranty etc.

£3000 is quite a difference! What's the mileage on the £19K car? Personally, I'd point the dealer (Hippo?) to this forum thread, offer £15,750 providing all engine/gearbox/differential oil is changed & walk away a very happy man - knowing that (theoretically) you have over £3K in your pocket for any unforseen repairs (Which will be extremely doubtful on a car of this quality!!). At this ridiculous money I say go with your heart - if you can put up with a black car :( .

How much is an engine, diff or gearbox?

That's how to look at it as that service was missed, none of those will be available to cover under warranty. It's a 45k car with 45k car bills if things go wrong. There is a reason they are dropping to silly prices....

Walk away my man, you'd probably get the 19k one down anyway. You wouldn't want to be stuck with a potential lemon in this economic climate! :D

Yup, i agree with Steve. Run away as fast as you can. If the price is waht's making you sway then wait a couple of weeks and there will be others at similar money. Especially roadsters. No one wants roadsters. :poke:

£9000, £1000 and £2000 respectively - plus labour and all the other bits you'd be silly not to replace at the same time :|
