Newbie - 350Z or Z4?

I test drove a couple of imports, but never really look at them longingly if you know what i mean. Like them, but prefer the 370. Z4 3ltr for me, but if you can get a facelift. Just the clear lights and bits really, got a more powerful engine, but some prefer the older M54 unit.

Buddy had the same thoughts so many times!! BUT this may sound a little harsh..

A question for you to consider..... How many 350z do you see at McDonalds car park??? hanging around with Saxos with oversized spoilers and dustbin exhausts? this is a tragedy as far as am concerned as I really like the 350z only bet is go for the 370 as the chavs cannot afford the 370 ... yet, just a point to consider

By the way I drive a 3.0 Z4.. not looked back really

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the replies - I've been doing some research and reading the forum since my first post! I'm not noticing a huge difference between pre and post facelifts looks wise which is probably down to me not looking hard enough :D What are the main differences bar the power hikes?

I'm leaning towards the 2.5 or 3.0 cars and would like to spend £8k. In your opinions what sort of vehicle should I be looking for a this price point? What options and mileage would be worth aiming for? At this level it seems a pre facelift 3.0 would be attainable. I've had a look at the spec lists and it seems that there isn't a huge difference is standard equipment between the two?

I'd say in an ideal world (bar an MC) I'd have the 3.0 but I think for me the 2.5 is more in line with my needs and budget as I rarely go for long distance runs and prefer attacking B roads at under a ton instead of beating autobahns at 155! The 2.5 should be roughly the same speed as the Civic too which is fine but with increased torque which would be great - my fear is missing out on equipment though!

So... What can £8k buy me :D

I'd love to P/X the Civic against one for the ease but I've got an EK9 Type R (pre dates the EP3, Japan only) so it's fairly specialist so doubt I'd get much with a dealer - private being the only way to go :(

8k should just be able to get you a 2003 3.0.

From the top of my head the difference in pre and post are (aside from the engines):

Revised front and rear lights (de tangoed)
Revised front and rear bumper (rear not so noticable - front has different fogs)
Roof motor enclosed - to minimise mater damage
Facelift has additional sound deading
Post facelift 2.5 is a 6sp, pre a 5sp..... facelift also has the option of a 2.5i and 2.5si.
Post facelift 3.0 has bigger front brakes

Sure someone else with more knowledge will come along with a few more i have missed!

I have the 3.0litre roadster and i am in love with it, fantastic perforance, comfortable (getting rid of run flats) and suprisingly good MPG ive got 28.4mpg on the clock and the last tank of fuel avergaed 31 MPG with a lot of mixed driving!

Cant recomend the car enough.

As this is a Z4 website your going to get everyone saying go for the Z4 as they currently own them but i'm going to stick up for the 350Z. I've always loved the Z4 and 350Z and had a 2007 face lift 2.0i Z4 up untill 4-5 months ago. You cant compare the power of the two but after a year of Z4 ownership i got abit bored, maybe it would of been abit different if i had a 3.0si. The Z4 does feel lighter and turns in better but i find the 350Z more fun to drive, it feels safer and more planted on the road and i find quite easy to cruise around town. Mpg isnt great(will do 35 on the motorway) neither is road tax but its cheaper to service and maintain and there are alot less problems with the 350Z from what ive seen from being on both this and the 350z-uk forum. I loved my Z4 and love my 350Z so couldnt really choose one or the other, i get quite involved with the Jap car scene also which i missed with the Z4.

ps. Theres no 350Z's hanging around my local maccys, the 350Z is rarer and gets more looks around here then the Z4 did.
