Hello Everyone!!

I have finally taken the plunge and purchased my first Z4 on Sunday, with trade in scheduled for tomorrow night ( Wednesday )... I cannot wait!

To give you a little info about me, I’m 29 living in a small town just outside Chelmsford in Essex... I have a huge love for anything motor related and like to think I have had some pretty nice cars over the years ( S2000, 2x Fiat Coupe 20VT, 206Gti, Toyota MR2 roadster - don't know it till you've tried it! :) ).

Which leads me nicely to my new favourite car... she's a silver BMW Z4 3.0se (2004) with red leather interior and the 18" split rims(108's?) on run flats.

I’m not sure how much of this is standard, but she has the following specs...

MF Steering Wheel ( metal.. )
Business stereo with iPod connection in the glove box
18s
Phone prep - built into the arm rest (snap-in adapter)
head light washers
dimming mirrors
auto lights
auto wipers
trip computer
fogs
44k on the clock..

I have already got my eye on the add-on cruise control stalk (she is pre OCT-2004) and the Xenon light upgrade from HID-Direct... hopefully will get them both installed over this weekend - if they arrive in time.

Then i need to figure out how I’m going to connect my iPhone up for making calls? ( Btooth/cable? help! )

absolutely cannot wait to take her for a drive down the lanes to Burnham on Crouch.... just need the sun to come out and play :driving:
Happy to be here, looking forward to seeing you all at a meet some time.

Danny

p.s. forgot to ask, are Z4 drivers flashers? ( hope that doesn’t sound wrong... ) I was a member of the Fiat Coupe forum previously and we always made sure we waved or flashed other owners as went past...

Welcome Danny, congrats on the new zed, you're gonna love it! :driving:

I usually give a little flash/wave when I pass another Z4... haven't got one back yet though :(

Someone will be along in a minute to demand some pics, I'd imagine ;)

Welcome to the forum. Yes, look forward to seeing the photos. :D Interesting you owned a 206 GTi and say it was a nice car. I owned a new one for a year and it was plagued with faults. After 12 months I hated it so much I just had to get shot of it.

Hello and welcome from another former 206GTi owner :D

all engine pulleys replaced due to excessive squeaking/rattling on cold starts
modification to headlamps (water getting into the air filter)
CD changer replaced
display in centre of dash replaced
windscreen re-bonded (became loose and started moving around :? )
ECU replaced

After the ECU was replaced I decided to call it a day and sell it.

:o dont blame you...

My washer bottle was loose on delivery causing a momental squeak from behind the dash (how they didnt hear it in the PDI Ill never know  )
the alternator wasnt plugged in properly so I broke down 20 miles after picking it up from a flat battery (must have been an easy job for the RAC man!)

oh and I had to 'adjust' the rear seat catches to stop them rubbing... hammer - as the dealer couldn't solve...

Hi, welcome to the forum!

Last things first, I am not a flasher, neither are any around my way.

Your car, silver and red is a nice combo  As you have probably gathered already, completely different roadster experience to the MR2 - drove a friend's the other week, was very impressed.

One other mod for your list... non-RFTs!

It's going to be a long 24 hours, but worth it :D

PS... don't bother waiting for the sun, get the heaters on and the roof down :driving:

thank you one and all...

I found the 206 to be very good, although the previous owner had made some 'minor' modifications which meant it went round corners on rails, but would cause nothing short of a shattered spine if shown anything other than the smoothest of roads.. suffice to say that by comparison the Z4 is smooth as silk even with big 18s, run flats and sports suspension..

Pictures will arrive as soon as the car does – most likely the weekend by the time I get a chance to get it out in the sunlight/heavy black cloud..

Sorry PawnSacrifice I’m afraid I have no idea what non-RFT’s are....? Rear Facing Turnips? Random French Tourists? – I must admit I didn’t check specifically for these things, but I would like to believe that I would have noticed had they been present  :tumbleweed:

Sorry, RFT - Run Flat Tyre. Although I like your suggestions! You will notice their presence, although I did not find them as bad as some so don't let that spoil you day! IMO the car runs better on standard tyres.

I had been wondering about these... the things I have read do seem to indicate that they ruin the ride, most likely due to the much harder tire walls.

With the lack of the spare wheel I assume you just carry around some tire repair spray/foam when you move away from RFT's? - the only problem with this being that if you get a serious puncher that the foam cant fix the AA will not help if you do not have a spare wheel or run flats...

I keep a couple cans of tyre weld in the compartment by the battery. Other buy the M-mobility kit (they have neither RTFs or a spare). What I will probably do, as others have done, is buy a space saver wheel and jack (3 series) from eBay to use on longer runs.

There are other brands of RFTs which allegedly ride well... where's Gannet :poke:

Welcome Dan' I am not far from you then. Live in Hutton, work in Springfield. You will love the 3.0 litre. It's a very visceral beast. I am trying to get a Zed 4 meet going for us southerners. Maybe from Essex into Suffolk & Norfolk, end up at seaside for fish and chips or something. I expect you'll be interested?

Post some pics.

Where did you get it from by the way?

Quote............."if you get a serious puncher.........."

Sorry if I am taking the micky, but yes I have Mike Tyson with me all the time just in case of aggro :D

Welcome  sleepless night for you.

Re flash or nod to another Z4 driver tried it a couple of times just got really snotty looks so never again.

Lol @ Petach... apologies my over excitement may have gotten the best of me! And yes I would be very interested in any meets that are organised!

Thanks again for welcoming in, I will try to get some pics up ASAP.

I have now added cup holders and front strut brace to my list...

Oh I did have one question already, do the lights come on automatically if its dark when you unlock the car? ( I have auto lights )... just wondered as it was one of the things I liked most about the golf’s I have been looking at..

If not I think this will also have to go on my list of modifications as well.

Interior lights do but not the headlights until you turn the key one notch

Picked her up last night.... all I can say is WOW! :D .... the difference between the BMW and my old MR2 is huge, just as a motor way companion it is simply streets ahead, pure luxury. :D

I am already looking forward to a long and hugely enjoyable relationship with my new car... to that end, this morning I have purchased my new Xenon’s from HID’s Direct, which I plan to have in place by the end of the weekend!
